Top 4 CBM that should have been at least nominated for best picture

Well, this is my top four list of COMICBOOKMOVIES that I think deserved to get at least nominated for best picture. Hit the jump to find out!

Even though I've been thoroughly disappointed with many of the award winners in the Academy in past years, I still enjoy watching them because there's always upsets. I did a list several months back stating the movies that should have won best picture that never did. All those movies were nominated however, and this list right here is dedicated to the ones that weren't.

Its a fact that there are a lot of memorable comicbook movies hangin' around. But some desersved to be in the best picture race. So here's the list.

4. The Dark Knight.

Bet most of you are surprised this is at the bottom of my list, right? Idk, while I'd list this atop my most favorite CBM to date, I just felt it wasn't as Oscar worthy as the others on this list. What I am very surprised about is that Nolan hasn't been nominated for any of his films. I mean, i can understand his batman films not getting nominated, but what about Memento? Or Insomnia? Or how about The Prestige?? I don't get it. The Dark Knight wouldn't have won anyway, but it deserved to be at least nominated. The Dark Knight Didn't lack all the elements oscars look for, it just wasn't their cup of tea. *rolls eyes*

3. Superman (The Movie)

Arguably the most iconic Superhero movie of all time. This is what started the generation of Superhero movies. It brought the world's favorite superhero to the big screen, and placed Christopher Reeves into Hollywood's Hall of Fame forever. It featured some excellent performances, and it received dozens upon dozens of excellent reviews from respectable critics the world over. Even the Superman theme is the most recognizeable theme out of any Superhero out there. It was so iconic and it touched critics and audiences everywhere at the time, but it just wasn't enough to get close to that trophy of the golden man.

2. V for Vendetta.

Violence, tyranny and revolution? V for Vendetta has that. In this well executed, brilliantly timed political-action-thriller, the movie gives a damn good look at what our future could look like. Hugo Weaving is flawless as the role in V, and his actions are made without really getting into a lot of action. This movie isn't really an action movie. Its a political thriller. Its about a man who is a victim of his government's dark secrets and decides to rise up against a corrupt society while shaping the people within the country to see his way. It was an action movie without a lot of action; it made us care for the characters without getting drowned in mind numbing explosions. I think it was left out of the oscar hunt because it was released too early in the year. But nevertheless, V for Vendetta should have been nominated. Would it have won? Nah, not a chance. But still.

and the number 1 CBM that should have been nominated is.....

1. Road to Perdition.

Many forget this movie is adapted off of a graphic novel. Sam Mendes gives the movie a clear, visual feel of a gangster thriller along with an indepth chemistry between Tom Hanks and his son. This had all the elements that Oscars are looking for! Crisp acting, fine direction and a artistic feel! The only problem is that its a summer movie. Just goes to show you how biast they are. Yeah, all those listed above really deserved to be nominated, but this deserved best picture 2002. Undobutably one of the greatest CBM's ever made, and one of the biggest snubs of all time.

i fully agree with your list and atleast one of the top three should have won the best picture award. anyway all of the four movies mentioned above are dc comics property and three of them are distributed by warner bros, then why everyone keep saying that dc makes poor movies. anyway i'd have added another one at 5th - spiderman 2.

Its even worse now that the academy can have 10 nominees. I dont understand how the most critically aclaimed CBM of last year, X-men: First Class was overlooked but critically panned Extrememly loud and incrdibly close was a nominee. They didnt even fill all 10 places. Ultimate piss take. This close mindedness makes me think having more nominees is a waste of time.

-best thriller
-best western
-best war
-best sci-fi

@marvel72: The Oscars would be like 7 hrs longO.o lol
Yeah I think Superman should have been nominated. It is the father of CBM blockbusters and my favorite CBM. It came out in '78, so I'm not very judgemental of the action or visual effects. Heck, they were revolutionary at the time.

The Dark Knight should have been nominated as well, but I dont think It should win. There were better films in '08 imo

The actual ceremony's like 3 1/2 hours. They could limit the speeches to 30 secs or something. Or at least start earlier

Nolan hasn't been nominated for a Best Director, but "Inception" has been nominated for Best Picture. Supposedly, the rules were changed for the Oscars, back in 2009, because the producers wanted to give popular films, like "The Dark Knight", a chance.

@marvel72: Comic book movies are not a genre. That would be like saying, groups of movies based on books, tv shows, video games, or stage productions are genres. Also, only four Western movies came out last year, and only two are coming out this year.

@Name: In order to get nominated for Best Picture, this year, a film had to receive a certain number of first place votes, by the Academy members. "X-Men: First Class" may have been on every single Oscar list, for all we know, but it didn't have enough first place votes. Just because a film wasn't nominated doesn't mean it wasn't considered. That logic is like the logic those angry CBM members use when they see a user developed list of top CBM's, top CBM actors, or top CBM scenes, that is composed of five or ten entrees, and then they leave a comment saying you foregot so an so, or such and such. Just because it wasn't included doesn't mean it was snubbed, hated, or foregotten.

the last good Western was probably 3:10 To Yuma

Well considering the other nominees in 2008, The Dark Knight should have gotten nominated, as well as Road To Perdition in 2002. V for Vendetta and Superman, yeah not so much.

tdk is overrated crap. It did not get nominated because it did not deserve to.

Superman 1?!? Seriously?!? The day they start nominating films for Best Picture where the protagonist spins the Earth backwards to go reverse time, is the day the Apocalypse begins.
