JURASSIC WORLD 3 Director Colin Trevorrow Shares Details On The Return Of The Original JURASSIC PARK Cast

In a recent interview, director Colin Trevorrow explained why his upcoming Jurassic World 3 was the perfect time to bring back the original Jurassic Park trio of Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Colin Trevorrow made quite the announcement in late September when he revealed that the original Jurassic Park trio of Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler) and Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm) would return to the franchise they helped build in the highly anticipated Jurassic World 3.

Speaking with Empire recently, Trevorrow elaborated on why he and co-writer Emily Carmichael felt this sequel was the pefect time to reintroduce these three beloved characters. He begins by reiterating why they weren't in the prior two installments.

We’d have had to come up with a reason why Ellie, Malcolm and Grant all went to the theme park on the exact same day it broke down – again,” and then adds, “The next film allows the legacy characters to be a part of the story in an organic way. Emily Carmichael and I call it ‘Jurassic Park VI’, because it is.

As for where we'll find the fan-favorites when the new film picks up nearly two decades after the events of Jurassic Park III, Trevorrow teases a little of what to expect. “You start asking the most basic questions: who are these people now? What do they make of the new world they’re living in, and how do they feel about being part of its history? Ultimately it will be in collaboration with the actors. They know and love these characters. We’ll do it together.

In addition to Neill, Dern and Goldblum, the new film will also feature Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt as Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing and recently added Mamoudou Athie (Sorry for Your Loss) and DeWanda Wise (She's Gotta Have It) in key roles.

Filming is expected to begin in London next February.

Jurassic World 3 opens in theaters on June 11, 2021.

So they really are mirroring the original trilogy...

Neil & Dern returned in JP3 so why not have them return in JW3? 🤷🏻‍♂️

After Fallen Kingdom I nearly lost interest in this movie, but when they announced the return of the original cast, the hype went through the roof.

Fallen Kingdom was such a shitty movie, so I don't really have much confidence or interest going into the third Jurassic World movie. But having Sam Neill back and the rest of the OG crew together will be great.

OT, was watching In The Mouths of Madness last night with Sam Neill for Halloween spirit, good movie.

@Reeds2Much - Event Horizon is alright; Sam Neill does a great job, as does Fishburne. The set designs and visuals are awesome in EH, I would argue the best part of that film.

The movie itself wasn't quite as strong, I think Mouths of Madness is a much better movie than EH.

I wouldn’t get to hyped up everybody...This is Jurassic World we’re talking about here...

The returning characters parts will probably consist of Dr. Sattler trying to show Dr. Grant how to use his new iPhone, which glitches out every time he touches it...All while the 12 second scene of Dr. Malcolm form the last “movie” plays on a TV in the background...

This is bittersweet news, with emphasis being on the bitter part, because these last two films in the franchise were soooooo dumb, uninspired. Chris Pratt? Okay, he was cool, but in a franchise that made dinosaurs and suspense the main draw...I think the original Spielberg-directed films are in no danger of being dethroned. -Yes, Lost World, too, because even that retained some of Spielberg's trademark directorial magic. JP III had some genuinely cool moments but the kid and his parents were utterly ridiculous, and things only got worse after the 2 original directors Spielberg and The Rocketeer/Captain America director Joe Johnston's films.
