THE WIRE Actor Michael K. Williams Was "Very Proud" Of His SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Role
Michael K. Williams originally had a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story before being replaced, and here he talks about the work he did on that film before he was recast when Ron Howard came on board...
Solo: A Star Wars Story had a rollercoaster of a production. Famously, original directors Lord and Miller were fired from the project and then Apollo 13 director Ron Howard was brought in to complete the film, reportedly re-shooting 80% of the movie.
One unfortunate byproduct of the changeover, however, is that The Wire's Michael K Williams had to be dropped from the project and his role recast when he couldn't make it back for reshoots.
In an interview on EW Morning Live, Williams was asked about his experience on the upcoming Star Wars spin-off and the fact that he won't be appearing in the final product:
“What saddens me most is I was very proud of the work that I did. What I believe I have created with Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson and Alden… I thought it was some great work. We was on the spaceship, and we all had these amazing scenes together, and I thought it was a great opportunity, and I thought it was some great stuff. It’s unfortunate the world won’t get to see it.”
Williams' character has since been retooled and A Knight's Tale and MCU alum Paul Bettany was brought in last minute to fill the role. The character has also been changed from a motion-capture creation to a human, more than likely to accommodate the shorter post-production time.
What do you think? Would you have liked to have seen what Williams would have brought to the role? Do you wish Lord and Miller had stayed? Are you looking forward to the film? Leave your comments down below.
