Aaron Eckhart On 'Battle: Los Angeles'; Compares It To 'The Dark Knight'.

Aaron Eckhart has spoken out about his upcoming movie 'Battle: Los Angeles', saying it's going to be gritty, and grounded in the same fashion as 'The Dark Knight'...

This past week there has certainly been no shortage of news on 'Battle: Los Angeles' as it nears closer to it's release date, and it looks like that wont be stopping anytime soon as now Aaron Eckhart, while at a press junket had given us some more information on the new alien invasion movie.

On the realism of the movie:

"The goal was: this is a war movie, a documentary style war movie – with aliens in it."

He then went on to compare the movie to one of his previous, 'The Dark Knight', in the sense that the film relies heavily on actual sets and back drops instead of relying mainly on CGI for the locations.

"It’s the same thing with The Dark Knight, you know Chris (Nolan) uses green screen, but the movie doesn’t rely on green screen, so you always get that feeling from Chris that this movie is real, and that’s why it adds that depth and texture. I think that it’s the same thing with this film."

Jonathan Liebsman also talked a bit about the film:

"I learned a lot from doing it, it’s great because it gives the actors freedom. Again, it helped me elevate what was on the page. It’s a style I am going to take forward into my next movie (Wrath Of The Titans, the sequel to last years Clash Of The Titans) but definitely tweak, because the next thing will require different things. I mean this is embedded footage with a Platoon, that’s the vibe of this movie."

'Battle: Los Angeles' hits theaters March 11th.

I don't see how that's like Dark Knight. Just because they use green screen? Who doesn't?

He meant how the green screen effects were implemented similarly. Adding more depth to the films pseudo-realistic feel as apposed to being over-done to the point of it being a 2 hour, Michael Bay special effects montage.

Alien movies are one example of where the illusion of "super realism" is a good thing. Not so much for CBM's. That's just my opinion. GL. It will kick much ass.

@Intruder I agree, it's another reason why Nolan's movies are great, the CGI, of course he used it in Inception, but once you think about it, it wasn't as much as others. GL will be trouble, really he should've had an actual suit and tried to make the worlds more like Thor.

Anyway I'm looking forward to this, I always love a good alien movie. Hopefully it'll meet expectations.

@Spideyboy, Intruder You mother[frick]ers. GL is gonna shove his green screen fist right up CAPs Ass. "You like that CAP? Eh? YOU LIKE THAT?!" lol

@Spideyboy Seriously though, you don't like GL's suit? I thought it was a pretty good idea. It wouldn't work for everyone of course, but GL is all the way Sci-Fi. I think it works for him. Plus you can see muscle tone like in the comics without having to put him in some rubber suit. I'll admit Reynolds wouldn't have been on my list of actors by any means, but I don't think that's going to hurt the movie. Now Chris Evans on the other hand, whew. That was a blunder of "epic" proportions. I don't think you can say they had to compromise GL as far as sticking to the source. If anything, it sounds like you maybe think they went too far with the special effects? Hmmm...wow. Anyways, I know I'm off topic. Had to vent.

Nolan is amazing. There is no way this film will be as great as The Dark Knight.

@Intruder Yeah even though the suit works for him, it sent off a vibe of how much CGI they would use, most of the whole entire setting is CGI with actual actors (not good). Even though Avatar did that, it still had a great budget, and I'm pretty sure GL won't have that budget. I'm not sure how Cap will do, but to me, it looks way better than Green Lantern. And yes they did go too far with special effects. You could still have an awesome GL film without making everything completely CGI.

anyone else tired of seeing "save wolverine and the x-men" posts?

anywho, the only reason he's comparing is to drum up attention for an upcoming project by comparing it to an old very successful project.

Nolan used a lot more CGI effects in The Dark Knight than he used in Inception. For the most part he relied on old school camera tricks.

@spideyboy Gotcha. Although I don't feel they've gone any further than most sci fi/fantasy movie's do these days. I think the main contention is over the cgi suit. Whether or not it truly was the right choice remains to be seen. I think you might be pleasantly surprised.
