Set 30 years after Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, Denis Villeneuve's sequel Blade Runner 2049 took us back to the incredible world established in the 1982 sci-fi masterpiece. But it was more than just a stroll down memory lane as Blade Runner 2049, with cinematography from Roger Deakins, expanded upon this dystopian future and offered us a look into Los Angeles in the year 2049.

Now, thanks to visual effects company Rodeo FX, we have a new behind-the-scenes reel highlighting how this world came to life on the big screen. For Blade Runner 2049, Rodeo contributed 75 visual effects shots. The video below offers a brief breakdown of their impressive work on the film.

Rodeo FX has worked with Villeneuve on other projects as well, including Enemy (2013) and Arrival (2016). The company has also worked on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Justice League, and Thor: Ragnarok.

Personally speaking I wish Deckard hadn't been in the film as I think the third act suffered as a result.

But thank God for people still trying to make great sci-fi.

As CultofKekistan has said, it was a shame this movie didn't make much as it means like less kinds of movies like this will be attempted.

I (like many of us) fear for movies in general and have always maintained that my love for Marvel is a double edged sword, as I do think it's success will only mean bad things for the movie industry in general. Companies once saw the appeal of trilogies and we were getting them for a long time. Now it's all about the universes. We live in a day and age where experimental films (specifically sci-fi ones) will startto gravitate towards streaming services and the only directors who can produce films such as this will almost become a brand unto themselves (like Nolan) making them a safe bet for studios.

Creativity still lives though. It just might be presented on screens a lot smaller than it used to be.

I really like this movie, but to be honest the mainstream audience won't be fond of it hence why the box office was not good.

Hell even the test screenings weren't positive.

@Sulti1274 - Its funny, but when I heard that the test screenings didn't do well, I was like "YES!" Because that gave me hope they did it right.
General audiences don't like movies like this and being the huge fan of the first, I'm glad the film makers stuck to their guns on this one.

@Re1Agent - I don't care much for any awards it may or may not win, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd love to see Deakins win for cinematography.
But even if he doesn't, the film will always look as good as it does anyway, which is good enough for me.

A great movie, a true piece of art. Some of the shots(actually allot) in the movie reminded me of Kubrick.

I think he would be proud to see the new generation doing there thing.
