Variety is reporting that David Dastmalchian and Hiam Abbass have joined the cast of Alcon Entertainment's upcoming Blade Runner sequel. Details on their roles are being kept under wraps.

The pair join a cast headlined by Harrison Ford (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) & Ryan Gosling (The Nice Guys) with a supporting cast that includes Robin Wright (Wonder Woman), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Ana de Armas (Knock Knock), Sylvia Hoeks (The Lake), Carla Juri (Morris From America), Mackenzie Davis (The Martian), and Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips).

The BAFTA-nominated Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) is directing with a script from Michael Green (Wolverine 3) & Hampton Fancher (Blade Runner). Not much is known about the film's plot, but it's been said that the sequel will be set several decades after the 1982 original with Ford returning as Rick Deckard.

Dastmalchian is best known to comic book movie fans for his role as Kurt in Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and as one of the Joker's deranged henchmen in Christopher Nolan's masterpiece The Dark Knight, which coincidentally was also his acting debut. He also previously worked with Villeneuve on the Hugh Jackman/Jake Gyllenhaal-starrer Prisoners. Abbass is best known for her role in the Steven Spielberg's Munich and Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings.

This movie is gonna be SPECIAL.

Villeneuve's style and aesthetic is PERFECT for the world of Blade Runner.

That noir feel. Please bring on Roger Deakins. His cinematography in Prisoners and Sicario was brilliant. Fits the Blade Runner noir atmosphere.

Enemy is phenomenal as well

Hope Gyllenhaal finds his way onto the Blade Runner cast

After seeing Denis Villeneuve's Enemy, Prisoners, and Sicario, I trust this guy 100%. Those are some of my favorite movies.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I liked prisoners. I wonder if the ending is exactly to illuminate the point entirely. How do you imagine his end and do you let your disdain of another's actions determine your empathy? Never saw enemy. Wait,... is that the one with the bizarre ending? Ha, I liked that one, too, actually

I was originally against the idea of them making a Blade Runner 2 because I think the original is a masterpiece but when I heard that Denis Villeneuve was directing I immediately on board. He is a superstar director who knows exactly how to tell a dark story. I love all of his movies even though they make you feel a little bit depressed and dirty.

Rodger Deakins as a cinematographer is a must. He is the best cinematographer out there and make a beautiful film.

I find that guy incredibly irritating. The heist crew in Ant Man killed what could have been a really cool part of the movie and his performance not only shouted, "hey, not only am I a stereotype, but check out other two guys. They're even worse stereotypes!"
