DUNE Director Denis Villeneuve Confirms That Feyd-Rautha Will Be A "Very Important Character" In PART 2

Fans of Frank Herbert's Dune were surprised when the key character of Feyd-Rautha didn't appear in Denis Villeneuve's adaptation, but the director has now confirmed that he will feature in Part 2.

Denis Villeneuve's Dune was a pretty faithful adaptation of the first half of Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel in most respects, but there was one notable omission: a key character who winds up becoming Paul Atreides' nemesis, Feyd-Rautha.

In the book, Feyd is the younger nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, and is almost as cruel and cunning as his grotesque uncle. Many fans were surprised that the character didn't appear in Part One, but there's been a lot of speculation that he will play a prominent role as a principal antagonist in the sequel.

Now, Villeneuve has confirmed that Feyd will indeed be a "very important character" in the now officially in-development Dune: Part Two.

"Definitely. That's a choice that I personally brought on," the filmmaker told Empire when asked if the Harkonnen warrior will make an appearance. "There was enough characters that were introduced in this first part, and it will be more elegant to keep Feyd for Part Two. It will be definitely a very, very important character in the second part."

Feyd has yet to be cast (as far as we know), but Eternals actor Barry Keoghan did send out a Tweet just after the sequel was greenlit which prompted theories that he may have been enlisted for the role.

We may get some official casting news soon, but for now, let us know who you'd most like to see play Feyd in Dune: Part Two and be sure to check out our review of the first film here.

Was kinda expecting Bautista to be the main villain in the sequel, given how little he got to do in the first

So I’m watching Jimmy Kimmel and Michael Keaton is the guest and Michael Keaton says that he is filming scenes for Vulture tomorrow. What movie is that for?

I hope that some of the big time celebrities get more than 5 minutes of screen time in the next movie.

The villains (in terms of one person, not whole army), beside Baron, were not really there. Bautista role was really small. But the villains were not only problem. The other problem i had was that Momoa and Brolin and that Doctor characters were kinda undeveloped.
Brolin character at one point just started to throw some Bible quotes.

@jerryblake - they over emphasized Idaho at the cost of Hallecks development.

Personally, it was one of the few missteps in the movie. They needed to find a way to show how important both of these figures were to Paul. No one got the shaft more than poor Thufir, though. Real waste of that character.

Gurney will be a bigger player in 2, though.

What actually happened to the Baron himself? Last time I remember he was stuck to the ceiling.

Anyway, I hope they give the sequel a villain to defeat at the end. Now the final third act fight was some random knife fight with some random dude, which kinda didn't give any kind of resolution.

@bkmeijer - If they go by the book, there are many villains to defeat through the film. In fact, you could say that the only really good guy - Duke Leto - is dead. He was always just a sad pawn in the story.

Feyd. The Emperor. Paul himself - all villains in their own way that will be central to this story.

I believe pt2 will be every bit as nuanced, complex and challenging as pt1.
