Edgar Wright Says His Involvement With The New STAR WARS Movies Is "Unlikely"

The director was in London for the MCM Comic-Con over the weekend to promote The World's End and Collider got the chance to ask him a few questions. He briefly mentions Ant-Man, but more interesting is what he has to say about the possibility of helming a Star Wars flick..

Edgar Wright is a big Star Wars fan, so with his profile being raised considerably after not only completing his "Cornetto trilogy" with The Wold's End, but signing on to direct Ant-Man for Marvel, many fans were hoping he might take a crack at one of the many new movies said to be coming our way under the Disney umbrella. Unfortunately that doesn't look like it'll be happening, as the director feels he might have taken one too many shots at the prequels in his hilarious tv series, Spaced.

From Collider.

"Any involvement in the new Star Wars projects is highly unlikely, since Wright admits he was perhaps too vicious about the prequel trilogy in Spaced."

Wright doesn't reveal whether this is something that he's heard in any official capacity, or if it's just his gut feeling on the matter, but either way it doesn't seem likely that he'll be bringing his unique style to a galaxy far far away any time soon. He was also quizzed about Ant-Man but declined to give anything away..at all! For the highlights in full click the link below.

Up until 1980 when the Empire Strikes back was released, the idea of working on a Star Wars film would be something most directors would consider a creative career move.

After 1983 with the release of that visual joke called Return of the Jedi, only desperate directors and fanboys would consider adding their names to Lucas's merchandise driven factory.

After the prequels though, I don't think anyone but a die hard star wars fan fully immersed in Lucas's cult would even toy with the stupid idea. Those films are being made basically as a showcase for a line of toys, action figures, games and anything else they can brand and sell.

When Disney get around to announcing Star Wars film not connected with the family Skywalker and their ridiculous soap opera, I think you'll finally see directors jump at the chance to do something with the SW world of decent artistic significance.

Simply making episodes 7, 8 and 9 is not going to save what already is a lost cause.

The only reason I'm personally excited for Ant-Man is because of the test footage made me believe the action can be done. Questions are: Who will be Ant-Man, Hank Pym or Scott Lang? Who's the villain? Will the movie go over with critics and audiences? Cause let's face it, his only real villain is Ultron and that's more of an Avengers villain. Egg head? Cause, if the story and the villain doesn't work then the movie is going to be Marvel's "Green Lantern".

1) Return of the Jedi sucked
2) the three prequels sucked
3) I don't know who Edgar Wright is, and why he would be considered for the Star Wars Saga.
4) I'm a movie fan who was 20 when Star Wars was released in 1977 - and I don't have confidence in any would-be director who plans to use Hamill/Ford/Fisher in any subsequent movies. Enough is Enough!

@Canary

1) Return of the Jedi does not suck.

2) Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock were... unavailable, so they are going with a more alive director. Unfortunately he doesn't make real to real talkies, he only makes excellent relevant motion pictures.
