A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

AFTER EARTH is directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and the script was written by Gary Whitta and M. Night Shyamalan. The film stars Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Isabelle Fuhrman, and Zoë Kravitz. It hits theaters June 7, 2013

@SimyJo - Snap.

Also, I read "Kitai Raige" as "Kitty Rage." Given that it is Jaden Smith, my mistake was somewhat appropriate.

Why not just make it full cgi and cut the expense of the film?

@InfiniteMonkey

If you hear a tiny secondary plop, following shortly after the main event - riding on the coat-tails of the main event.... think of Jaden.

the alien creature looks like the one from The Host. Plus this will most likely get crushed by Man of Steel that comes out the following week.

£5 on Blu-ray - eight months after its dismal cinema performance. Betcha.

It can join the films I still wouldn't buy for a fiver - along with Spiderman 3.

Actually i refused to buy Spiderman 3 for £3 - and thats less the price of a sandwich.

You'd have to pay ME to take a copy of After Earth, and even then I'd consider it two hours of my life wasted and a tasteless doorstop-wedge.

Ok I'm done.

You guys think it's cool to hate on Shyamalan. Truly, the only two movies of his that I haven't seen are Lady in the Water and the Happening, and the Last Airbender was painful to watch, but he brought us Unbreakable, Signs, the Village, and of course, the Sixth Sense. Those four movies, I feel, can never be overrated.

This one doesn't look half-bad. I wish he'd go back to making movies that don't require a plethora of special effects and green screens, but I guess he's trying to go with the times. What makes his movies appeal to me particularly is the heart he puts into them, the familial orientation and the importance of a functioning family. It's unique, and apparently lost on much of today's movie-goers.

This is going to be M. Night's last chance. If I'm a Hollywood studio, if this bombs both critically and financially I'm never going to finance him again.

at this point smith is the same character in all his movies, its really about where he and the producers set the level of "black-guy" on him before they start filming.

I hate comments like that. This movie would look like crap if the actors were hot pink. Please stop assuming everything is about race.

@Grimfoe Just stating that it seem to be a trend on this site. That's all, no malice attended if I offended. But really?
