Now this sounds interesting. Fox will produce a version of the Zorro story which will take place in the future, and have signed the great Mexican thesp Gael Garcia Bernal (Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries, The Science Of Sleep) to play the role.
According to Variety..
Pic is a futuristic reboot of the classic Zorro mythology that will not be set in California or Mexico, despite the story's Western themes. Garcia Bernal will play the character as a masked vigilante bent on revenge.
We last saw the character played by Antonio Banderas in
Green Lantern director Martin Campbell's
The Legend Of Zorro back in 2005. Sony, who produced both Banderas Zorro movies, are also working on another more conventional origin story based on the first ever
Zorro novel. The script for Fox's movie, which has still to sign a director, was written by Glenn Gers, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy.
