On the Oscars red carpet, Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) talked briefly with MTV about a couple of his upcoming projects, including Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. He will be playing the lead role in the Matt Reeves-directed sequel. While he understandably wouldn't give any details concerning his character, but he does offer an interesting hint at what to expect. "I play a guy who's trying to save humanity." It was previously stated that the film takes place 15 years after 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, and one of the focuses will be on a group of scientists who are struggling in San Diego. Judging from Clarke's comment, we can certainly expect him to be one of these scientists.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is set to hit theaters May 23rd, 2014.

Rise was not overrated. It deserves all the praise it gets. That movie was better than it ever had a right to be. One of my favorite movies of 2011 (God has it really been that long?).

The first movie was essentially Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (PotA4), and it sounds like this one is based off of Battle for the Planet of the Apes (PotA5).
