Variety is reporting, composer Michael Giacchino has signed on to score Universal's Jurassic World.  He is best known for his work on J.J. Abram's Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Lost, and Super 8. He's also contributed his musical talents to upcoming films as well as Lost Tomorrowland and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Of course working on this film is a bit more significant than most as he'll have to perform in the shadow of John Williams. The legendary composer worked on the first two Jurassic Park films and film's theme is held in high regard. Giacchino is no stranger to the material. One of his first gigs was scoring the video game based on Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Perhaps that will offer a sample of what's to come. You can listen to that below.
“My first stop-motion movies at 9-years-old involved stories where dinosaurs and men were trapped together on long-lost islands or far away planets,” Giacchino said. “My first composing job was to write the score for the Steven Spielberg-produced video game based on the film ‘The Lost World,’ which was one of the earliest console video games to feature an original orchestral score. Having the chance to work on this new movie with the talented director Colin Trevorrow is an incredible opportunity to bring full circle the journey of dinosaurs and film that started in my backyard over 30 years ago.”

Jurassic World is being directed by Colin Trevorrow, from a screenplay written by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. The story is set 22 years after the events of the first film. The cast includes: Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), Irrfan Khan ("The Amazing Spider-Man"), Vincent D’Onofrio ("Men In Black"), Bryce Dallas Howard ("Spider-Man 3"), Ty Simpkins ("Iron Man 3"), Judy Greer ("Two And A Half Men"), Katie McGrath ("Dracula"), Lauren Lapkus ("Orange is the New Black") and Nick Robinson ("The Kings Of Summer").

Jurassic World stomps into theaters June 12th, 2015.

Even though I'm not highly optimistic about the film, this is great news. My favorite composer.

@JediPhilosopher

You didn't like Zimmers MoS score? Wow, in my opinion, that score is one of the best of all time. Shame the same can't be said for TASM 2 which was complete ass in terms of music. Did enjoy the movie though.

I am Honestly disappointed I was hoping for John William to come back. I am not surprise that Giacchino got the Job he was rumor to be one to do it. I wish him the best of luck hope he make a killer score for Jurassic world I going have go listen some of his music now.

LOST, UP, ALIAS, RATATOUILLE, STAR TREK, JOHN CARTER -- fantastic scores all. Their styles are not exactly the same, but Michael Giacchino would best fit into John Williams' shoes if the legend is unable to finish the remaining STAR WARS movies.

What blows my mind about Giacchino is that I looked him up after hearing his music for the video game MEDAL OF HONOR: ALLIED ASSAULT...because it sounded as cinematic as an Indiana Jones movie. Years later, the guy was being nominated for -- and winning -- Oscars.

The guy's biography is a testament to hard work and a love of movies.

Better than John Williams?!?

I LOVE Michael Giacchino's scores for Lost, the Trek movies, The Incredibles...but that's such a ridiculous thing to say. Not many things are able to top John Williams in general, and his score for Jurassic Park in particular.

I gotta agree with thewonderer, I really enjoyed Zimmer's score for MoS. Absolutely fantastic. I still can't believe he did it for TASM 2 too, it's like he had utterly no interest in that project and just did it to cash in a check. God-awful.

This is disappointing news. I love what John has done with Jurassic Park and would have liked him to still be working on the franchise.

@TheDesertGorilla A poor man's John Williams is way better than the hundreds of Zimmer clones out there.
