/Film] Jurassic World 2 director J.A. Bayona revealed to a Spanish magazine that the sequel to the 2015 blockbuster will have a budget of $260 million. According to most estimates, the first film only had a $150 million production budget. Universal is clearly confident that a $1.6 billion performance at the worldwide box office can be repeated if they're increasing the budget by $110 million. However, there's definitely a few questions surrounding the project, with Colin Trevorrow dropping out of the sequel to helm Star Wars: Episode IX (although he returned to pen the script, along with Derek Connolly).
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel. Filming is expected to begin in February in Hawaii.
In terms of the most expensive films ever made, the top spot goes to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which cost $387.5 million. Second, is Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which cost $300 million. It's followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron ($279.9 million) and John Carter ($263.7 million). At $260 million, Jurassic World 2 would tie Tangled for the 5th spot.
[UPDATE] A source close to the production of Jurassic World 2 has reached out to /Film to say that the $260 million price tag is incorrect and that the film's budget has not yet been determined.
