Ridley Scott Won't Direct BLADE RUNNER 2; Harrison Ford Will Appear In Third Act

In a new interview, Director Ridley Scott (Exodus: Gods And Kings) tells Variety that he won't actually be directing Blade Runner 2, and that Harrison Ford will only appear in the third act of the movie.

While doing press for his new movie Exodus: Gods And Kings, Ridley Scott provided some new details to Variety about the Blade Runner sequel. He'll be directing The Martian next, and after that Ridley has plans to direct something else, but he wouldn't tell Variety which film. They were told it wouldn't be Blade Runner 2, which Scott has been developing the past few years with screenwriter Hampton Fancher.

Even though Scott will sit on the bench (he'll produce) for Blade Runner 2, fans can be happy to know 'Rick Deckard' (Harrison Ford) is returning. Scott said, “Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act.

The film starts shooting in 2015, so they better figure out who is going to direct it fairly soon. Who would you like to see? My vote would go to Neill Blomkamp ("District 9").

Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) prowls the steel-and-microchip jungle of 21st Century Los Angeles. He's a "blade runner" stalking genetically made criminal replicants. His assignment: kill them. Their crime: wanting to be human. The story of Blade Runner is familiar to countless fans. But few have seen it like this. Because this is director Ridley Scott's own vision of his sci-fi classic. This new version omits Deckard's voice narration, develops in slightly greater detail the romance between Deckard and Rachael (Sean Young) and removes the "uplifting" finale. The result is a heightened emotional impact: a great film made greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests that Deckard may be a humanoid. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Is Deckard a replicant? As with all things in the future, you must discover the answer yourself.

If he's not directing, I'm not so sure it'll even be worth my time. The trailer, among other things, will have to have a lot to win me over.

Also, the finding Deckard aspect sounds pretty fresh

Damn, it very rarely turns out when they move onto a sequel without the original director in the chair.

Oh well Hope it still turns out.

Instead you direct a ridiculous looking religious epic trying to ride the coat tail of all the recent Bible adaptations success. Lame.

Get Martin McDonagh, Kathryn Bigelow, Alfonso Cuarón, Gareth Evans, Charlie McDowell or Adam Wingard to direct.

Is a sequel necessary or unnecessary? Is it good or bad that he's not directing anymore? Which ending is cannon? Is this actually going to get made? So many questions but in the end I really don't care. I'll get excited when I see the teaser.

I'd like to see Carl Erik Rinsch get the job. Carl has a history with Ridley, so it is possible he could do it.

I have a feeling that it will be far different in tone from the original, and outside of the basic premise of the Blade Runner universe I think the story itself will not be just a rethread of the original. Maybe I'm in the minority, on this thread, but I will give it the benefit of the doubt. I don't believe Scott, who's been nurturing this project for awhile, is not committed as a producer, to making sure this will be good. I'm a optimist. If it's good..fine, if it's great..even better, if it's not good..no skin off of any of our asses! Win..win.

But Scott produces the Halo 5:Night Fall seris and thats pretty bad. It looks like prometheus but like syfy just made a parody that has halo rights. its bad.

Ridley Scott hasn't really been on a hot-streak, this may be good news, depending on who does direct.

I'm sorry but Blade Runner is overrated. Yeah I said it I thought it was decent but not the great masterpiece that people have claimed it to be. But with Scott not even directing I don't know if it's worth checking out.
