JURASSIC WORLD Helmer Colin Trevorrow Confirmed To Direct STAR WARS EPISODE IX

We obviously know that J.J. Abrams is directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, while it's already been confirmed that Rian Johnson (Looper) will write and direct Star Wars Episode VIII. Now, Star Wars Episode IX has a director, and it's the man who helmed the third highest grossing movie of all-time, Colin Trevorrow! The news was made official by Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn at D23 earlier today. Production is obviously still some time away, but the Jurassic World director will be heading to Lucasfilm this year to start working on the movie which is set for a 2019 release.

"Colin is someone I’ve been interested in working with ever since I saw Safety Not Guaranteed," says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. "The power of that film paired with the enormous success of Jurassic World speaks volumes about his abilities both as a storyteller and skilled filmmaker. We are thrilled to have such an incredible talent as Colin join our family and step into the Star Wars universe." Trevorrow adds: "This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope." Thoughts?

Star Wars: Episode IX will conclude the third trilogy of Star Wars movies that begins with Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 18, 2015. What's next? We'll just have to wait and see on that!

His next film, BOOK OF HENRY, an indie drama, already nabbed Naomi Watts.

He's the least intriguing between the directors chosen (Rian Johnson, Abrams, Gareth Edwards, Lord & Miller) but he's definitely talented.

@BatmanHeisenberg I believe it's more of him being forced to incorporate some of the stupid draft ideas (aka weaponizing raptors) into his screenplay.

D'Onofrio's character, motivations and subplot should've been dropped completely from the film.

@DrunkenMadNukem This is Episode 9. Rian Johnson is directing Episode 8 and writing Episode 9.

@DrunkenMadNukem Nah, you are mistaken! :)

This trilogy was always going to have a trilogy of directors. The original Rian Johnson announcement said that he'll be directing Episode 8 and writing Episode 9.

Mendelsohn and Mikkelsen in the same movie is really insane to me.

That's just TOO good.

Has Disney heard of this man?!?

Trevorrow is a solid pick, but i'd like to see Jones helm a SW film. Jurassic world left a lot to be desired

Jurassic World was exactly what the studio wanted it to be. That's why studios want to work with him.

Eh idk. All I know from this guy are the two films mentioned. SNG was a pretty solid flick tho not a big budget blockbuster. JW, was....so so....idk, it was better that JP3, but I didnt care for the whole I-Rex thing. As much as I have enjoyed the JP franchise over the years, I was content with it ending at 3. JW was just proof that you can run out of ideas and just start running with ridiculousness. Idk how well he'd do with SW. This is another big budget blockbuster....hell, its THE big budget blockbuster. His first foray into that territory was less than astounding and I want nothing but the best for my precious Star Wars.

I am so tired of Disney hiring directors with only one hit for this movies just so they can have control over them, how about you [frick]ing hire with his own vision?
