ROGUE ONE Star Diego Luna Shares A Touching Story About A Woman Taking Her Father To See The Movie

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Diego Luna says he got emotional while reading a story about a woman and her Mexican father going to see the film, and he's now shared the tale with his fans over Twitter.

Rogue One: The Star Wars Story has rightly garnered a lot of praise for its diverse cast, but probably the most refreshing thing about the film is how organic everything feels while watching the characters. It never seems like a big deal - these are just a bunch of people who happen to hail from different parts of the galaxy, joining forces to fight a common enemy.

To give fans an idea of why this kind of representation is so important, Diego Luna (Captain Andor) shared a letter he received from a woman who brought her Mexican father to see the movie. Luna, who was born in Mexico City, was moved by the account of the man's joy at hearing a main character in such a massive blockbuster speak with a think accent.

One of the greatest performances in a supporting role, by another Mexican, in another sci-fi blockbuster film, a long time ago, was by the late Ricardo Montalban. So memorable that it spawned an effective re-make of that film.

this is why representation matters people. no diversity is "forced" because there are people out there who respond to it in a positive way.

I've been following Diego since y tu mama tambien. I was happy to see a fellow Mexican as a lead character in a star wars movie.
