STAR WARS: Lucasfilm's Divisive Sequels Get New Posters Highlighting The Trilogy's Characters

New posters have been released for the Star Wars sequels showcasing the characters who took centre stage in what proved to be an incredibly divisive trilogy. These are very cool, so check them out here!

The Star Wars sequels remain incredibly divisive, while the ill-feeling towards them has seemingly only increased since their release. For whatever reason, Lucasfilm decided to go in without a plan, allowing the franchise to become bogged down in the competing visions of two filmmakers: J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson.

After Abrams delivered a movie that many argued was basically A New Hope retread, Johnson turned everything the filmmaker had laid down on its head in The Last Jedi, dismissing Rey's parents as nobodies and killing Supreme Leader Snoke without ever addressing what was clearly meant to be a mysterious backstory.

When Abrams returned for The Rise of Skywalker - replacing fired director Colin Trevorrow - he went into damage control mode, undoing much of what Johnson had delivered. His messy finale underwhelmed, though perhaps not as much as Johnson's handling of Luke Skywalker.

Like the prequels, there's a chance the sequels will be better appreciated over time, and some newly released posters (via SFFGazette.com) might help you see the movies in a new light.

Artist Devin Schoeffler, in association with Acme Archives, is responsible for these stunning new one-sheets, with the characters from each movie put under the spotlight. For The Force Awakens, they're framed within BB-8. As for The Last Jedi, it's Captain Phasma's helmet, and by the time we reach The Rise of Skywalker, Kylo Ren gets his turn.

It's an excellent concept, even if it is unlikely to change many minds about this series of movies. Rumour has it that the upcoming big screen projects being planned by Lucasfilm will be set after the sequels, with the hope being that those will go some way in making up for the missteps made by Abrams and Johnson between 2015 and 2019.

Throw in the fact that The Mandalorian may well explain Snoke's creation in season 3, and all those annoying plot holes might soon be a tad less irritating! The original trilogy didn't need a bunch of tie-in material to make sense, however...

'The Force Awakens' was the first Star Wars movie I ever watched and it felt magical. Really enjoyed that one.

The next two, well... those went downhill very fast.

@Unites - The only thing in TFA that was dumb was the Starkiller base itself. But I also enjoyed it very much, it had the OT spirit in it.

The others... Not so much.

Yes, because plasma was so important in the trilogy.

@Urubrodi - I think it's saying something where I defend Boba fett in the original trilogy and even I forgot her name.

That's Disney characters not Lucas characters, BIG difference. Disney SW will never be loved liked Lucas SW was. Disney SW will never be an interesting story with interesting characters like Lucas SW was. Disney SW is nothing more then a streaming service product now to sell subscriptions. Lucas SW is still awesome and we'll always have that!

They should reboot the sequels. They deserve nothing more than what they did to Original Star Wars - piss on it. Reboot them. Forget the past. Kill it if you have to.

@Turboblaster500 - give it a rest already. There's no way Disney will ever reboot just the sequels. Especially with their Disney Land & World attractions based on them as well

I like what they're going for, but the posters are still a bit mediocre. But that's probably because I'm comparing them to Grupo Erik's long posters. Those are the best

TFA had a lot of great potential. I was excited to see what would happen with Finn, Rey, Poe, Kylo, and Snoke. I actually liked the actors, and I thought it was a great start for the new characters. Which flies in the face of many claiming Star Wars fans only want the same thing over and over. In fact my only complaint is that it mirrored the OT too much.

People praised Johnson for "Subverting expectations" and trying something different. How on Earth is that considered quality? Change isn't always good, neither is giving people something they didn't expect. What did we expect?

We expected the set ups from the previous films to pay off. We expected Lucasfilm to have an actual outline for the trilogy. Only to find out there was no roadmap other than MAKE THAT MONEY, and "reimagine" and "deconstruct" the characters we know. That's not a good plan. It backfired.

Meanwhile a random Mandalorian and a diverse cast of new characters popped up and everyone embraced them. INSTANTLY! Goes to show what it means to move a franchise forward without disrespecting the foundation on which it was built, and the fans who readily empty their pockets to participate in the worlds you create. Theme parks, merch, movies, shows, video games, books. We will gladly purchase all of them if we know it's good.

It's pretty simple. I like pizza. I like many different kinds of pizza. If I go to a pizza place or have it delivered, I expect to get pizza. It's what I paid for. It's what I expect. It could be pepperoni, it could be plain cheese, meat lovers, margherita, or even a pineapple pizza. But it should be pizza. If I order Pizza and you bring me meatloaf, or an omelette it will subvert my expectations, that doesn't mean I have to like it, and if I don't Im a toxic pizza fan afraid of change.

No other industry wags their fingers at consumers for not liking the product they put out. Speaking of pizza, Domino's actually ran a campaign acknowledging the fans backlash and actually worked to improve the recipe. Don't know if it worked because I'm not a fan of the company, but the effort is noted.

@DarthOmega - you forgot to add that you're also a raycist homophobe if you don't like the meatloaf being served at the pizza place.
