Earlier this week, reports that Reed Morano, who directed three episodes of the critically acclaimed show
Handmaid's Tale, had met with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. The meeting sparked rumors that the talented director
could helm a future Star Wars film.
Speaking to IMDB host Kevin Smith, Morano addressed the rumors, attempting to dispel any speculation that may have arisen as a result of the meeting.
"I think it was just a speculation of some kind," Morano said. "I was lucky enough to have a meeting with Kathy Kennedy, who is the loveliest human being. Peter Dinklage, who appeared alongside Morano, then chimed in. He asked her straight-up if she was doing a Star Wars film, to which the director replied, "No, I'm not... will you stop adding fuel to the rumors? It was just a meeting, and that's all I can say. And she was awesome and imparted a lot of her wisdom. She's like, an idol."
Dinklage, of course, joked that he only asked because he was trying to secure a role in a future Star Wars film. He joked, "I just want a part!"
Although Morano did her best dispel the rumors, the cryptic nature in her response still leaves open the possibility that she could direct a future Star Wars movie - especially since Kathleen Kennedy has expressed interest in seeing more female directors at the helm of stories set in a galaxy far, far away.
Currently, Episode IX is being directed by J.J. Abrams, while Rian Johnson - who helmed The Last Jedi - will direct the first chapter in the all-new film trilogy. So if Marano was to take the helm of a Star Wars film it probably wouldn't be for quite some time.
