The Late Carrie Fisher May End Up Having A Bigger Role In STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Than We Thought

We recently found out that J.J. Abrams plans to incorporate unused footage of Carrie Fisher from The Force Awakens into Episode IX, and we're hearing that he also plans to use scenes from The Last Jedi.

To coincide with the announcement that production had officially kicked-off on the still untitled Star Wars: Episode IX, director J.J. Abrams revealed that he would be utilizing some unused footage of Carrie Fisher's General Leia from The Force Awakens in order to give the late actress and her iconic character a proper sendoff.

At the time, we all assumed this would just amount to a couple of minutes of screen-time, but it looks like we may see more of Leia in the final installment of the Skywalker saga than we initially thought.

According to ABC News’ Clayton Sandell, Carrie's brother Todd revealed that Abrams will also be using some scenes from The Last Jedi that never made the theatrical cut:

"He (Todd Fisher) said there were big surprises coming – big surprises with this movie, this performance, and the unused footage – and said – this one is really for the fans.” “But they apparently have a number of unused minutes from both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.” “Todd and the whole family are very excited and wanted it to happen.”

Obviously fans shouldn't expect to see too much of the beloved former Princess in the film, but it does sound like Abrams may have at least found a way to make her an important part of the plot and give us all a satisfactory conclusion to Leia - and Carrie's - story.

Good, I’m glad. The family gave the ok, and I’m sure she would have wanted this. Sending our princess off in style in the last Skywalker Star Wars chapter

This sums up my feelings for anything Star Wars after TLJ.

Maybe they'll do a Paul Walker sort of thing. Where some of the footage is original and some of the footage is CGI. If they're going to try and put Fisher in this anyway, I doubt many would object to a few small CGI scenes.

@Nightwing1015 - I'd rather they not do that. If they are going to CG enhance her to make some of the footage they have "work" they might as well just make up other stuff. They should just tailor the story surrounding Leia to fit what they have.

@Nightwing1015 - @DirkLargepeck I think what will end up happening, is that they will use actual footage of her (like all the out takes, all the bloopers, all the cut scenes, everything they have and never has been seen before of TFA and TLJ) and then they will rework the background with CGI, so they will add her with CGI into another place and then they will do a little ADR with the huge ammount of stuff they have of her in their library and deposits of sound.

So then it wont be a CGI Carrie, it will be actual footage just that reworked like huge studios do now everyday to fit into something new...

George Lucas did this stuff all the time in the Prequel Trilogy, since then it has become something regular in Hollywood...

The only problem is how they are going to make work this stuff...
