It has been months since Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi hit theaters, but the division it caused among many fans still persists. Now, in an interview with Collider Yoda himself, Frank Oz, has shared his thoughts on the backlash the film has received by some fans of the Star Wars saga.

“Yeah, there’s a whole backlash. I couldn’t understand that whole backlash. I didn’t get it. I thought it was a great piece of work. I never understood that backlash,” Oz explained, when talk turned to the backlash around the film and Yoda’s new force abilities. Oz followed this up by explaining his perspective saying, “I’m somebody that works with the script, and if the script is there and I believe the script is organic and right for the moment and the character, then that’s kind of all I think about. I don’t think about extra powers or anything, I just go with it. I just don’t consider that really.”

While Oz’s statement certainly echoes some of the sentiments from film’s defenders, it is important to keep in mind that he isn’t dismissing any criticisms one may have with the film. Instead, the Star Wars legend is merely stating that he personally doesn’t share some of those criticisms.

But what do you folks make of Oz’s statement? Do you agree or disagree with the actor ?

Nobody involved with this film got past the creation of the idea. They never considered the consequences or ramifications - TLJ is basically full of scenarios like this where they did not consider if it fit in the universe or if it fit into what they had written in the movie prior. This creates continuity errors and in-universe contradictions along with creating plot holes that will need to be filled before future movies can occur.

In this case;
If Force Ghosts have abilities, why have they never contributed to stopping the wars/death? All it would take is Yoda to basically zap Kylo with his ghostly force abilities and that's the new trilogy over.

I wasn't a fan of this movie, or The Force Awakens both movies in my opinion were boring and the villains just aren't interesting.

I personally liked the expanded universe more. The expanded universe isn't perfect, but I personally liked it more and characters like Mara Jade are a big reason why.

TLJ to me feels very much like TDKR back in 2012. Both were critically well received and made a ton of money. Both look and sound really damn great. And both did very little for me personally, in spite of my initial anticipation.

Both have avid fans, and for months they -rightfully- talk about the respective movie's interesting themes and other merits. My watching experience, though, consisted of a steady mixture of "wow, that looked great!" and "wow, I feel that was... kind of stupid?".

In both cases I imagined a second viewing might help me see more of what the fans saw, and in both cases I couldn't yet bring myself to rewatch it. Both also happen to be my overall least favourite movie of the respective director (both of which I generally like).

The big difference would be the context and consequences of each movie. TDKR was simply the unsatisfying conclusion to a trilogy of movies I'd enjoyed very much up to that point. TLJ was the middle part of a trilogy within a bigger, ongoing franchise that I used to love, and it made me think that that franchise overall might not be for me anymore.

"I believe the script is organic and right for the moment and the character, then that’s kind of all I think about."

Lol, even the guy who plays Yoda doesn't seem to find a problem with him acting crazy.

@Nightwing1015 - Tells you more about what he understood about the character he plays than anything.. atleast Hamill knew he was acting out of character
