Stop. 2014 Godzilla is being aggressively compared to Pacific Rim which is why alot of people don't see the awesomeness. 2014 Godzilla brought life back into the American Godzilla franchise. The movie was great. Get over it.

Godzilla 2014 was better that this Zilla thing from 98.
New Godzilla is more true to the classic jap Godzilla.Even the ending was like in classic godzilla movies.And we had monsters battle and atomic breath,just awesome.Godzilla was such a bad-ass in that movie,great moments with great music.I hope we see more of this in sequel.Human plot was meh like just in every monster movie,so i don't cry like others,even in jap movies human stories was meh or "funny".

Yeah both American Godzilla movies were pretty bad....but the 2014 is definitly an improvement.

LOL I'm not saying I liked either of them, but 2014 Zilla was jam-packed with clichés, a TON of stretches in logic and had a plot that was predictable as hell. Not to mention how much I hate movies that are funded by and used as recruitment propaganda for the military.

It's been a while since I saw the 98 one for sure, and it was definitely not good, but I do remember the ending where they find the nest of baby godzillas in the stadium being somewhat unexpected.

They're really, probably about on the same level. I gave 2014 3/10 and 1998 4/10, although that score is +/- 1, so they are prob fairly equal.

The stupidity gets worse as The Internet matures. The drivel posted that people get away with is unparalleled from 15 years ago. The history prior to 15 years ago is non-existent to these cretins.

To be completely clear, opinion aside: Godzilla has ALWAYS been the cavalry. There has always been cheezy human dialogue prior to Godzilla's appearance in every single film. ALWAYS. To defend Godzilla (1998) is akin to defending Ang Lee's Hulk. Or worse, defending Super Mario Bros (1993).

These two films are examples of turning childhood heroes into deceitful money making schemes. Nothing more.

Indeed. Get your head out of your collective arses and accept that this Godzilla pays proper respects to its respective universe.

If you like special effects over plot, then 2014 for sure. And I do remember a love story in the Broderick one being really dumb (but then again, so were Cranston and Olson's characters).

No need to watch the 1998 film. One tiny detail that completely makes that film not watchable as a Godzilla film: the titular character is NOT Godzilla. Just because a CEO slapped Godzilla on that film does not make it a Godzilla film. That is why I made the SMB movie comparison.

Godzilla 2014 was great. It could have been a little better but it is LOADS better than the 1998 one ... which I bought for the kids ($5) and watched.. it is complete trash.

Sorry @lolken, the movie just came out 2 weeks ago. Knowing this website, I should have waited 6 months until emotions have calmed and people stop buying into the hype, then when everyone watches it a second time they'll be on the same page as me.

Word has gotten around (from people I have talked to in Brooklyn) that Godzilla 2014 isn't so great. MANY of the younger crowd here aren't recommending it because Godzilla is hardly in it compared to the 2 hour plus length of the film. The customary 2nd week drop in box office is already strongly in effect and X Men opening today will finish it off. G 2014 is "OK" but kind of the Star Trek: TMP. Hoping the sequel brings it because they have shown that they have the potential to do it.

These guys are totally missing the parallels between Godzilla's fight and the human storyline, but they aren't wrong about the characters in general. The best character in the film is Cranston's character and the movie immediately suffers as soon as he's gone.

It's also hilarious that they say Emmerich wants to be like Spielberg after reviewing the 2014 Godzilla where Edwards has so many callbacks to Spielberg movies, it's practically an "Ode to the Berg".

pretty much how all godzilla movies play out

1) People doing stuff creating some form of character development for the main cast.
2) something bad happens *aka Random Monster attacks*
3)people reacting to the random event
4) Godzilla shows up...
5)a fight breaks out and a city is destroyed
6)the end

Godzilla 2014 was awesome it pretty much covered all the bases for a Godzilla film , I actually love the fact he has very little screen time. It made his presence so much more powerful and had more of an impact. And how freaking badass was his finishing move on the last Kaiju
If they decide to do a second I have a feeling it will dip into a more "pacific rim" type of world *cats outa the bag* type deal* more monsters more action

Godzilla 1998...the film was terrible but I still love it. the cartoon was actually pretty decent

98 was the first movie I walked out of. 2014 Zilla I didnt, but thats not saying much. The newest one goes to shit when Cranstons arc is over in 30 minutes, then people and a story you dont give a shit about eats up the next hour and fifteen...followed by Godzilla wrestling mutos, and cut aways from the actio to see peole watch the fight on tv, and the military do dumb shit to make the movie work...ps, there was no fuking point to the halo jump part of the movie. They had to go that high for what fing purpose?!?! No purpose but to make something look neato. Ugh, soo dissapointed in this movie.
