Edgar Wright on Brandon Routh, Chris Evans & Scott Pilgrim

While promoting the film in Britain, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director Edgar Wright addressed a number of issues, among them the casting of former superheroes in the film in the form of Brandon Routh and Chris Evans.

"Both of them really relish the opportunity to show off their comedic chops. They've got real presence and timing," says Wright. "It was more interesting for me to cast people that you maybe know from another genre. They also had to pose a real physical threat to Michael Cera and I think if I'd had people that you would think off as comedy actors in those parts it might have been different. I wanted it to be interesting matches in terms of the exes and Michael."

As to the film, which is still unreeling internationally, he adds, "It's taking the trials of love and presenting them as a visual metaphor. The inspiration for the book by Bryan Lee O'Malley was the idea that when you date someone you demonise their exes. Whether that is true or just in your mind, the idea just snowballed from there. It wasn't a superhero film or a generic sci-fi tale, it was essentially, deep down, a date movie, a rites of passage."

Good stuff Ed! :) I saw the movie today and loved it. Chris Evans and Brandon Routh were hilarious and the entire cast did a superb job. The music, effects and everything else just helped make it one of the best CBM's ever!

Why have I still not seen this movie?!?! Oh right, theater prices.

Finally watched The Losers, and while the story was a string of cliche's (will trusted arcs?) I enjoyed the performances. Chris Evans stole the show! Hope he can be hold back so of that hilariousness for and keep the good natured sincerity.

Absolutley adored the movie, it was so funny and charming. Visually it was excellent...and I just thought it was awesome. I was so annoyed that when I went to see it the other day the cinema wasn't packed like usual...such a shame.

I thought this movie was hilarious, my girlfriend, not so much. Although she didn't appreciate the little things, such as the comic book framing of the swingset (as MarsAmbassador pointed out), or the Thomas Jane cameo

This movie was one of the most original films I've seen in years. I can't believe how much crap it's getting for making zero dolla dolla bills

i finally saw this movie and it was amazing. i also got all the graphic novels and are even better. i also downloaded the game on xbox live and its just as great. THE ONE thing i had a problem with was that Micheal Cera played Scott. im not a big fan of him at all. he did an ok job but Scott Pilgrim is very energetic and micheal is very soft spoken and thats exactly how he was in the movie. STILL a very good movie

Another three thumbs up from me and my teenage kids (I'm old ... so very old...). We went yesterday, with no real preconceptions, to a mostly empty theater, and enjoyed the heck out of it. I agree with MarsAmbassador's analysis of the little things. Sadly, it just has "cult movie" written all over it. I tried to describe it to some (non-comic book fan) adults today ... and it was like trying to explain chess to very, very smart bonobos. Kinda useless.
