The final box office predictions for Warner Bros. and New Line's Shazam! Fury of the Gods are now in, and the DC Comics sequel looks set for a decent, if unspectacular debut.
Fury of the Gods is still expected to take in between $35M - $40M domestically, but its international estimates are stronger. According to Deadline, the movie should finish the weekend with a global total of between $80M-$85M.
Not huge numbers for a major studio superhero film, but it's worth noting that Shazam! 2 only cost $100 million to produce - significantly less than other recent DC-based films such as Black Adam and The Suicide Squad, which were budgeted between $185 million and $200 million.
It'll be interesting to see how the movie performs over the next few weeks, but the first reactions were very positive, and we'd be surprised if the reviews didn't follow suit.
Be sure to check back for our review tomorrow.
Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.
