In Morbius' first post-credits scene, Adrian Toomes finds himself transported from the MCU to Sony's Marvel Universe in a baffling sequence that was clearly meant to capitalise on the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The prevailing theory is that the villain would have originally been part of this world with no explanation after Sony's deal to share Spidey with Disney concluded, but reshoots led to The Vulture being dragged into another reality (which actually makes zero sense).
If we're lucky, an incursion might bring an end to that universe, but in a second stinger, we saw Adrian suited up and attempting to recruit Michael Morbius to a seemingly heroic Sinister Six. He briefly mentioned believing Spider-Man might be responsible for his arrival in a different reality, and while the Living Vampire greeted this reveal with a blank stair, the reference may have been cut altogether.
According to @DRMovieNews1, prints of Morbius in his local theater have scrapped that Spider-Man mention. Now, all eyes will be on the upcoming Digital release to see if that's the case there as well, but don't be surprised if it does disappear as Sony looks to avoid tainting the web-slinger's successful MCU franchise with this rival Marvel Universe. It's also likely that plans for Tom Holland's Peter Parker to enter this corner of the Spider-Verse have been blissfully scrapped in recent months.
Whatever the case might be, both the response to Morbius and the backlash aimed at these post-credits scenes are bound to have led to Sony going back to the drawing board with its grand plan.
