According to Deadline Sony has tapped Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman to pen the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. The duo's latest collaboration is the now filming Star Trek sequel. They also wrote the first Star Trek film for J.J. Abrams as well as Michael Bay's first Transformers movie. "Alex and Bob have a unique ability to write great character and spectacular action that makes them pitch perfect for Spider-Man. They’ve been friends of ours for a long time and they have an exciting take on the franchise – we’re thrilled to have them join the Spider-Man family," said Producer Matt Tolmach. The film's other producer Avi Arad echoed Tolmach's excitement by saying, "It's a thrill to have Alex and Bob put their stamp on this franchise that we all love so well. They have an innate understanding of what makes Peter Parker not just a superhero, but a hero for all of us." Both Kurtzman and Orci released this joint statement, "We grew up as huge Spider-Man fans so, to us, the opportunity to work on this film is akin to being handed the Holy Grail. We love the direction Sony and the filmmakers are taking the Peter Parker/Spider-Man mythology and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of this legendary franchise." The two are also set to receive Executive Producer credits on the film as well.

There is no indication on what the story will be for the film. Marc Webb's tale of Spider-Man is another origin story for the character that will slightly differ from the more conventional telling. There is also no mention on who will be the main villain for the story. As it is well known Spidey will battle it out with Dr. Curt Connor's The Lizard in the first film that is due to be out this July.

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Fields. Denis Leary, and will be released on July 3, 2012.

The guy who wrote the first Transformers movie? Really? Oh well... Star Trek wasn't bad. Still had some dumb dialogue in both. Not sure about this choice honestly.

I love that these guys are on board for the sequel for The Amazing Spider-Man. This makes me 10x more amped up for the release of not only the sequel but also oddly enough, has me 20x amped up for The Amazing Spider-Man. I love these guys and other than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen I've never seen a bad movie that these guys did.

The first star trek was great lol and oddly transformers 1 was the only one that didn't seem rushed scrip wise. So far so good electro and kraven would be nice.

Just no Mysterio or Kraven. They're not interesting enough for a whole movie. And obviously no Chamaleon. Blergh, goodness, no.

I hope this means Spencer Smythe and The Spider-Slayers...to be honest I'm not dying to see Green Goblin again...would rather see Spider-Slayers and perhaps Kraven or another unused baddie...

Star Trek and The FIRST Transformers were great good choices

They really should wait to see how the first movie is going to do. The last time a studio greenlit a sequel before the first movie came out, we got Green Lantern.

It should be called either:
The Spectacular Spider-man
Web of Spider-man
Spider-man: The Tangled Web

Talk about counting your chickens before they hatch! Summer "blockbuster"??? Might want to wait until the box office receipts come in there. I know a LOT of people I talk to have no interest in seeing a remake of a film that was just made 10 years ago. I don't either. From my point of view I see this reboot falling short at the box office for that reason alone. Seems to me Sony might want to wait before writing checks they won't cash.

They´re kind of hit and miss for me. I love ST and their TV show Fringe, but I hate Transformers and thought Cowboys And Aliens was subpar.

Good choices. Star Trek is probably my favorite sci-fi film of the past decade.

Better be great.

Norman Osborn and Morbius, Electro, Hobgoblin, Shocker, Chameleon, Mysterio or The Robot Master as the villains.

Give me a Death Of Gwen Stacy / Goblin story then revert the rights back to Marvel. The MCU could use him in the coming years.

@Supes17:
I don't hold ROTF over their head. They also wrote for the first Transformers (which was IMO much better than ROTF), 2009's Star Trek, Watchmen, Mission Impossible III. All of those movies have their flaws, but the writing in them was pretty solid. I mean, personally I thought Transformers, Star Trek, and Watchmen were fantastic movies, but I know that a lot of people feel otherwise about particular aspects of the film.

As for ROTF though, they pinched it out just before the writers strike kicked in. Bay tried to say that they got their story done in time before the strike started, but the final product shows otherwise.

What's wrong with Sargent and Kloves? I don't get why studios get new writers for sequels prior to the original film being released. If TASM screenplay is well-written why wouldn't they do everything they can to get them back?

I knew they were both pretty much nerds but, Spider-Man? I thought Star Trek was genius so I'd say they should have it.

@LOGANXX36 And you're saying that about a movie you haven't even seen yet? Also, most of your complaints have to do with the fact that it's not the SAME shit that Raimi did over again and that Peter put some hexagon-shaped soft plastic material over the fabric.

Oh, and by the way Logan, we get it. You hate the reboot. No need to restate your opinion on every article.

@CrimsonComedian What [frick]ing difference does it make wether or not Marvel makes the films themselves? Spider-Man will be [frick]ing useless to the MCU aside from forced cameo appearances just so fanboys can nerdgasm over it.

I second auto bots comment, it doesn't make a difference who makes the film. Not all marvel films are as special as you guys think

@Spidey31 I thought that Iron Man 1 & 2 were good as well as TIH, but Thor and Cap weren't that great.
