The fans, even myself for a while, have wanted to see the web-slinger do his thing alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Imagine a sarcastic whip along with every action Hulk made, as if we didn't get enough of that from Iron Man. Seeing The Avengers whip ass along with spidey himself would draw in and capture not only the hearts of fans everywhere, but also every child tht exists on this Earth and loves the concept of superheroism. Wanna see what chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, Marvel director, chairman, CEO and the founder of Marvel Studios has to say about the little team-up? Just read below. There is a massive extended interview with Arad and The Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach over at Collider so make sure to link it up!

Collider's question:
Because The Avengers was so huge, and people now like seeing there superheroes now in one film, is there any sort of plan for studios to combine their efforts and allow Spider-Man to join up with the larger Marvel universe?

Avi Arad's response:
Creatively, it would be a trip, it would be wonderful. We had Avengers in out slate in Marvel six years ago, so it’s really . . . Unfortunately the thing is, at the end of the day our relationship with Disney and Marvel is really wonderful, and it’s a matter of sitting in a room and carving out . . . This is the mother of all superheroes, and I believe after this movie, no one will ask us any questions again because we believe we’ve made something really special. And if Disney and Sony meet and say, “Let’s do this. ” Because it all comes back to the comics, and usually in the comics we do team-ups, even DC.

One can only hope right? Not only has Dr. Strange become a possible inclusion to the team, but as far as the idea goes, so has Spidey. We can only sit and wait to see what the sequel to Joss Whedon's critically acclaimed The Avengers. But as far as this goes, I hope you enjoyed this little bit of CBM news!

Alota of things have to be right first.. You need to let Spidey have at least one more solo film to draw us even closer.. And wham.. Possibly introduce shield in his sequel.. Or even threequel..
Ahh yes.. If only..

First it was impossible, now its a probability, com'on Arad make up your freaking mind already, but, yea.. they really need to hackit out with marvel to make Spidey joining the Avengers a reality. And whats that last bit about "and usually in the comics we do team-ups, even DC." What could that mean... let the speculation begin!

Unfortunately, if they bring Spidey to the Avengers, he'll be played by Nicolas Cage. He'll also be wearing the bear suit from the Wicker Man.

So how about instead of an Avengers sequel we get a Marvel's The Expendables movie? That way you can just throw any marvel hero in there and have them duel it out. lol

If this should ever happen with Joss Whedon directing it, it will UNDOUBTIDLY become the highest selling movie ever. Grant that.

Im torn between the fact that spiderman is the only other marvel character id care to see join the team really, spidey swinging round would be amazing, but i dont think it would work creatively with this spiderman as hes more grounded. Hey heres an idea give the raimi fan boys what they want do a multiverse thing and bring back macguire for it, im sure no one would complain.

of course Avi's gonna say it's a possibility. he's that money hungry, see... what matters is if it'll be done just right and not rushed like what he made Raimi do with Venom in Spidey 3.

I seriously hope they stay away from the Civil War storyline all together considering all the characters arent set up in the universe

Unless they are doing Civil War, there's no reason why Spidey should join the MCU all of a sudden and probalby with continuity problems. If there's any Marvel property that would be usefull to the MCU its the Fantastic Four.

But if the Avengers and Spider-Man were to co-exist, why would Captain Stacy be so opposed to Spidey if a group of vigilantes (Avengers) saved the world and New York City? Unless if they were to make this take place before the Avengers, it still doesn't work because Spider-Man wasn't there to help them when the Chitauri invaded.

@CaptainObvious

Because The Avengers dont have secret identities, and theyre all grown men(and women) with the government pretty much on their side. Spidey is a kid with a secret identity, who to many may seem unable to handle threats, what with his constant quipage and jokes. I do agree on the invasion thing though, although them not mention it in TASM is weird, it wouldnt be impossible, especially if it takes place some time after or something.

Forget the dumb jail cell scene, the best possible after credits scene would've been if Nick Fury had knocked on Peter's door and said "PACK YOUR BAGS, KID."
Bam. Mind. Exploded.

I dont think Spider-Man should be in the Avengers. Dont get me wrong, I want the current Spider-Man in the MCU (plus it would validate the reason for a reboot. I was one of those who wanted a Spidey 4 with a new director, writers and cast but a MCU set Spider-Man would make me happy its a reboot) i.e. there can be references in Spider-Man to the Avengers (be it background references or proper cameos) and vice-versa

but I have always preferred Spidey as a loner in his younger years, I only thought it was fitting he joined the New Avengers because he had gone from being an inexperienced young teenage crimefighter to a fully developed man who had gone through so much in his life, he was fit to become a member of the Avengers

have it reflect the history of Spider-Man in the comics, he wasnt a main member of the Avengers until much later in his life. And I dont want to see an adult Spidey until a least a second trilogy of Amazing Spider-Man

And when it comes to setting The Amazing Spider-Man in the MCU, I always thought, if the Avengers is set in May 2012, then Amazing Spider-Man could be set in 2014 while the Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which probably be released in 2014) is set six months later. In this way, it gives New York two years to clean up after the Chitauri invasion

I compare the MCU New York to the real world New York. Two years after the Sept 11 attacks, people still had the attacks in their mind but it wasnt constantly being referenced by everyone so in the MCU, the Chitauri invasion could be similar to this. But to avoid continuity [frick]ups, its best all future MCU movies should be set in other cities in America. I think New York should be left alone while the Amazing Spider-Man movies are made to avoid confusion

Plus it would be great to get some variety in locations, we already had Iron Man 2, the Incredible Hulk & the Avengers in New York

In the Ultimate universe Fury comes to Peter and tells him that when he is older he can join the team but not till he has more exp.
I think this is the way they should do it in the movies just have Fury show up tell Peter how things are going to be and then leave him alone to finish his trilogy then have him join the team.
Maybe he can have a cameo in someones movie to help out or something or in the Avengers 2 when Thanos shows up have peter stop in to help but Fury tells him to go home because he's not ready to play with the big boys yet.
I think the best way to probably to have Fury/Shield in a Spidey movie would be to do the Ultimate six story line for the third Spidey film. the Avengers helped out a lot during that story and it would be a good way to do a team up without putting him on the A team.
