According to
The Hollywood Reporter, director Marc Webb has narrowed down actresses to portray the potential lover interest in
Spider-Man reboot.
Ophelia Lovibond, a British up-and-comer who appeared in “Nowhere Boy” and “4.3.2.1” and recently wrapped William Monahan’s “London Boulevard”;
Lilly Collins, repped by CAA and ROAR, who appeared in “The Blind Side” last year and will be seen in “Priest.”
Teresa Palmer - Teresa Palmer, who is currently shooting “I Am Number Four” and was the romantic lead in this summer’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” The actress, repped by WME and Management 360, read with Garfield last weekend.
Emma Roberts - has twice flown from the set of “Scream 4” for readings. (Sweeney Management-repped Roberts co-starred with Lovibond in “4.3.2.1.”)
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the love interest in “Scott Pilgrim vs the World,” was in the arachnid web but sources say she has now fallen out.
THR goes on to say starting today and heading into the weekend, select actresses are meeting with Webb and new Spidey actor Andrew Garfield. And unlike Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, the main love interest WON'T be Mary Jane, and could be Gwen Stacy, Parker’s other love interest in the comics, or possibly a new character.
And Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who portrays the love interest in Edgar Wright's recent
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, was also in the mix, but reportedly has fallen out. And although it was rumored that the film's setting would be in Peter Parker's College years, according THR; the story is more grounded in the high school.
Anyhow, production is expected to begin in December with Andrew Garfield as the lead, and
Spider-Man swings back into theaters July 3, 2012 in 3D.
