While most fans are speculating which big-name actor could tackle Norman Osborn now that Spider-Man is getting another solo outing this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Academy Award-winning actor Chris Cooper has looked back on his short-lived portrayal of the supervillain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and what could’ve been in a third installment.

“I dare say if this Spider-Man franchise had carried on, I was guaranteed a huge role in [Amazing] Spider-Man 3,” Cooper told Digital Spy earlier this week. This is no huge revelation especially considering the second and final Marc Webb-directed Spidey movie had a post-credits scene featuring Norman Osborn’s head in a box after the character was thought to have died from a disease in the family bloodline. “We shot the scene,” the actor added. “I’m sure it would probably have been one of the opening scenes in Spider-Man 3 if they’d gone ahead, but he was coming back. It’s very bizarre, what they came up with.”

Oh well! Because we’ve seen Norman Osborn portrayed in both of the previous Spider-Man franchises, there’s a strong possibility that Sony and Marvel Studios will give Tom Holland’s Web-Slinger a new nemesis (if not multiple) that we have yet to see grace the silver-screen. However, given the character would now be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his inclusion could make for some great storytelling in future movies. The rumor mill suggested Matthew McConaughey was being courted for the role, but who do you think it should be?

Starring Tom Holland (Peter Parker), Zendaya (Michelle?), and Maris Tomei (Aunt May), the untitled Spider-Man movie is directed Jon Watts, and opens in theaters on July 7, 2017.
