COMICS: Prepare To Change the Future In First Look At SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1

This July, Miguel O’Hara returns...because YOU demanded it! Marvel have released a first look at Spider-Man 2099 #1, the all-new ongoing series from legendary writer & Spider-Man 2099 co-creator Peter David (All-New X-Factor) and breakout artist Will Sliney (Fearless Defenders).

Spinning directly out of the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, Miguel O’Hara swings again as Spider-Man 2099 – only he’s trapped in the year 2014! Stranded there by his father, the evil head of super corporation Alchemax – Miguel must come to terms with being stuck in an unfamiliar and unforgiving era.

But in the year 2014, Alchemax has just formed, and Miguel has a plan. Undercover in their employ, Miguel has a chance to stop the corrupt organization before it can even get started. And perhaps even alter his own future to prevent the rise of one of his greatest villains!

“Miguel becomes determined to try and transform his grandfather, Tiberius Stone into a decent guy in the hopes that it will wind up informing the raising of Tyler Stone, and perhaps make him a better person,” says writer Peter David in an interview with Marvel.com. “In short, he’s hoping that he can influence the development of both the present and future of Alchemax.”

“He’s going to find that’s not as easy as he’d hoped,” David continued.

You’d think that being a man out of time would make you a man without enemies, but Spider-Man 2099 is about to discover that he’s not the only one fighting for a better tomorrow. The Adjustor, a supremely powerful being has appeared in the year 2014 with only one mission – eliminate Miguel from the timestream! Not to mention the epic Spider-Verse event looming on the horizon!

Ask yourself, can one man change the future? Find out as the battle for tomorrow begins this July in SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1!

So Spiderman 2099 goes back to the past to change the future for the better by stopping an evil corporation? Sounds a lot like Futures end with Batman Beyond returning to the past to do the exact same thing...

Yeah, it's a shame we don't have a SM2099 or Batman Beyond film even being considered somewhere.

I'd love to see the Miguel O'Hara story be told on the big screen. Maybe one day in the future when the film rights revert back to Marvel. Hopefully way sooner than 2099.

@Retrofit Normally I'd agree with you 100%, I read all the 2099 titles back when they were new and I liked none of them except SpiderMan 2099 (and I kind of dug Hulk 2099 as well)... You kind of have to admit Miguel's Spidey is pretty [frick]ing badass and cool as hell looking and has evolved beyond a cash grab from the 90's, in his own right this Spidey is awesome.

@ RetroFit

Marvel comics were somewhat better in the 90's then they are now. At least they didn't have a over-saturation of Marvel Universe Events every few months.

Spider-Man 2099 is bad ass! I will buy this book.
He was created BEFORE Batman Beyond (who is cool too).
Spidey 2099 was created BEFORE Ultimate Spider-Boy,Miles Morales.

Miguel O'Hara is the FIRST Spidey of mixed race..sorry Miles, your not special.
O'Hara uses the skull emblem on his outfit because of his Hispanic roots.
The skulls used in the Day Of The Dead holiday.

@mancalledthing he's right. ..It was a day of the dead costume that he used because of the material it was made from.

New All XMen and this in Marvel

Futures End at DC

HG Wells has provided such a legacy to the comic book world

Ugh, lol this could be cool....but change the title.....it won't be 2099 forever.....I mean it's like that's the only year left or something

ScionStorm - 6/12/2014, 5:44 PM
Lol. People trying to compare this to Batman Beyond. Batman Beyond is nothing more than an attempt to photocopy Spider-man into the DC universe.

Only Hulk 2099 & Spider-Man 2099 were the only good things out of that line. I can't wait to see how Marvel starts to screw up this idea of Spider-man. Maybe he'll die or become a lizard only to get his body taken over by another character. As you can tell I'm not happy with the current state of the Spider-books.

I ONLY like Spider-Man 2099 out of the whole original 2099 series. So, I'm really looking forward to this. Art looks good. I like the character, and the story would be even more closely related since it's brought back to this era.

somebody please explain to me why this guy is so cool?
Calvatron
Calvatron - 6/13/2014, 10:17 AM
@shaddowkhan

1: he's from the future.
2: he got costume tips from Batman (not really, but look at those arm blades.)
3: he's a character created in the 90's that didn't suffer from 90's syndrome (i.e. no shoulderpads, pouches, leather jackets, or guns)

Always loved the Spidey 2099 costume. Still have 1 of the comics from the 90's.
