A documentary made by filmmaker Jacob Cohl, the son of lead producer Michael Cohl, chronicled all the backstage drama surrounding the much-in-the-news [for all the wrong reasons] musical Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark and it may be headed to a cinema near you. According to the New York Post,Jacob Cohl, was given access to film the entire production spanning from the first day of rehearsals to the long-awaited June 2011 opening. It was originally planned to be a typical documentary of triumph and success but it became something else with all the turmoil that unfolded during rehearsals, rewrites and injuries. One person who hopes the documentary never sees the light of day is Tony winner Julie Taymor, the show's original director, who is seeking to bar the producers from using any footage of her in the movie. Reportedly, this documentary is the cause of Taymor's lawsuit as the footage will portray Taymor in a "very negative light". The other producers of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark have counter-sued Taymor in an effort to get the documentary in theaters. I have nothing personal against Taymor but I sure would love to see all the madness that surrounding the production before all the kinds were sorted out and the play went on to break Broadway records.
