As you would expect, Kevin Bacon gives an amazing performance as a crooked cop who is faced with an unimaginable scenario. The overall premise and concept of the movie is cool, interesting, and even unique to a certain extent. It’s entertaining. It definitely drags in some parts and the ending felt a little rushed, but overall it was a good movie.
The plus side is that Watts has a really good understanding of adolescence. The interactions between the two young characters are the highlight of the movie. There’s a scene towards the beginning where the two kids are challenging each other to swear, and it’s both hilarious and real, it brings you back to the first time you said shit, pussy, and boobs, and they even improvise some words, like assface, and admit that f*** is the worst. It was fun to reminisce, almost like the first time you drank a beer or had a shot of whisky, or talked shit with your friends. It really explored that young hearted mindset that we've all lived through.
The movie really delves into innocence in general, and how when we’re younger we feel invincible and we don’t fully understand the consequences of our actions because we don’t have any real reason to care.
The movie also explores issues like trust and authority. Shea Whigham, who plays Chief Roger Dooley on “Agent Carter” has a standout performance and almost tricks both the two main characters and the audience, reminding us how much our life experience either good or bad plays a major part in our daily decisions. It also reminds us how youth is truly wasted on the young.
Overall, this movie got me really excited to see Watts work with Tom Holland and even more excited to see his take on Spider-Man and Peter Parker. Watts understands youth and he knows how to film it, he could give us a really emotional and heartfelt film, and with talent like Holland, and Marisa Tomei, I have a lot of faith in his take on Spider-Man. I feel like Marvel/Sony could give us the best Spider-Man movie yet and finally do justice to both Spider-Man and Peter Parker.
