Emma Stone Says The Amazing Spider-Man's Gwen Is Different To The Comics; Hints At Movie Footage At Comic-Con!

The actress describes her preparation for a "different" take on Gwen Stacy, while sharing her thoughts on the trailer and dropping hints of more footage being shown at SDCC '11...

"Not to freak anybody out, but she’s maybe a little bit different in the movie than she is in the comics, maybe," the actress told MTV News in a recent interview while promoting her latest movie, Crazy Stupid Love.

Stone then went on to describe just how much work she's put into her portrayal of Gwen, regardless of how "different" it may or may not end up being. "We were lucky we got to rehearse. Most of my scenes are with Andrew [Garfield], so Andrew and I would rehearse with Marc Webb the director a fair amount. I read a comprehensive book on the Stacys, and a few of the comics."

As for the trailer (a bootlegged version of which has already found its way online) and the possibility of new footage being shown at Comic-Con, she said: "I’ve seen the trailer, I thought it was pretty cool but maybe I’m a little bit biased, contractually. I’m pretty excited about it and I think they’re going to be showing a little footage from the movie at Comic-Con."

still can't get why a highly successful and such a recent movie series is being "rebooted".
Why are we retold the same Spider-man origin story that we have seen not so long ago?

and why is the movie shot like "mirror's edge".

Don't tell me Iron man will be rebooted in 2018 and The Avengers in 2021.

@Rango-

I seriously doubt the movie was shot like Mirrors Edge. This was filmed entirely with 3-D cameras and were worked on by the same crew that assisted Cameron with Avatar. I believe this 'mirror's edge'scene was specifically shot for the trailer to show off it's technology as well as give a sense of what's it's like to be Spidey. The entire movie I'm pretty sure will not be done this way.

It's a shame. Even with Disney as it's partner, Marvel is constantly pimping DC in the film department. Such a shame.

Oh boy.
I'm trying to hold out hope, but that line about "I’m a little bit biased, contractually" reminds me of Blake Lively's Agent dissing Green Lantern.

I like the twists in this clever retelling of the webslinger. Not too crazy about Parker getting bit on the neck or whatever, but realistically if a spider were scaling down on a webline, his neck would probably be the first thing it would see. As for Gwen being diverse from the comics, I can't complain. Took long enough just to get her into a movie instead of Mary Jane again. Kirsten Dunst ruined Mary Jane for me. Hope she's not introduced until at least the third film after Gwen's death at the hands of the nefarious Green Goblin. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Spiderman fan, but this particular change I don't mind, as long as it doesn't take the ultimate route.

A "different" take on Gwen Stacy - in this version she's not beautiful! Yeah that's right I went there. Hey why not, first MJ now Gwen.

@ SuspenseSmith: Damn straight Spidey can be dark. Everybody complaining the teaser looks too scary can tune into Teletoon Retro and watch the old animated show. His parents are gone, it's his fault his uncle dies and he breaks his girlfriend's neck for chrissakes. This ain't Disney. (Well, technically it is now but you know what I mean).
