Sony could have a new highest-grossing movie very soon as
Spider-Man: Far From Home is projected to swing past
Skyfall at the worldwide box office by the end of this weekend.
Deadline projects that by tomorrow (Sunday)
Far From Home, which opened in early July, will have earned $1.109B worldwide. This would make it Sony's highest-grossing film ever at the worldwide box office, surpassing 2012's
Skyfall, which sits at $1.108B.
According to
Box Office Mojo,
Spider-Man: Far From Home has currently grossed $374.6M domestically and $726.2M intertionally. Deadline estimates the blockbuster sequel's box office split will hit $376M domestic and $733M international through Sunday.
Far From Home is
already the highest-grossing film out of all of the Spider-Man movies, and by a wide margin. It surpassed
Spider-Man 3 ($890.9M WW) back in July. It also
became the first Spidey movie to pass the $1 billion mark worldwide back in July, and the only non-Disney title to reach the global milestone this year. Of course, Marvel Studios' creative involvement could have something to do with the film's success.
Surprisingly,
Far From Home is only third on Sony's all-time domestic charts, behind 2002's
Spider-Man ($403.7M) and
current No. 1 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($404.5M). It'll be interesting to see how Sony's box office shakes out when the sequel
Jumanji: The Next Level rumbles into theaters later this year.
