Even though mainstream audiences in America have become far more accepting of the contributions of comic book movies to popular culture, not everyone agrees that they are as deserving of respect as other types of movies. In fact, one reporter in South Korea recently apologized to Willem Dafoe after asking him questions about portraying Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin, in Spider-Man, apparently assuming that the actor is embarrassed by the role.

Being the artist and true class-act that he is, Dafoe defended the role.

"That's part of my story. Don't be sorry. I'm very proud of that movie."

Dafoe, who built his reputation by playing dramatic roles in indie and arthouse movies, will be playing a martian in the upcoming John Carter of Mars movie. He said that, these days, he is most interested in working with passionate filmmakers.

"I very much am attracted to strong directors, passionate directors, people who are on fire to express their cinema. I am less interested in exercises in style. I require more adventure and stimulation."
