It is weird seeing Spider-Man all over again...

I am not even 20 yet and I still remember the good ol' days of Tobey's Spider-Man...

I remember getting so excited whenever I would see the first Spider-man T.V. spots, as well as previews on movies. I bought toys, comics, shirts, wanted stickers, and even bought damn freezer pops with spidey movie cards inside. I was actually obsessed seeing as how I was so young. I remember when I was seven or so and I thought to myself, what is my passion going to be? The next day I saw that Spider-Man teaser with the twin towers in them(God bless all the ones devastated by 9/11)and I saw spidey swinging and I said there is my passion...COMICS!

So with spidey being the godfather towards one of my greatest passions(besides drawing) I will always remember the feelings I had whenever something Spider-Man would pop up, I am pretty sure my eyes would light up as if I was in a toy shop...but anyway, I cannot believe that all that anticipation was wasted, seeing as how the whole thing has been restarted...or excuse me, REBOOTED, I love the look of spidey in the newest one, but I will never forget the awesomeness that Tobey's movie held over me when I was a kid.

Just...that feeling of nostalgia washes over me when I think of the new one, and it is so weird waiting for Spider-Man all over again.

I was just a might curious if anyone my age felt the same way. but then again its really just me I think. Feel free to comment as always, but please be respectful.I know this article was a bit short, but I'm not one for alot of words when it comes to quick and/or empty thoughts.

that is enough of my soapbox...for now.

Good day peeps!!

I'm just a regular, hard-working family man who loves comics and anything associated with them. I love to draw and play video games in my personal past-time, and I also like to post any news I find right here on CBM.com, what I believe to be the best site for any comic fan.

That last paragraph, for the most part, sums up how I feel about the "editorial".

I'm 18 and I understand where you're coming from. Raimi's Spiderman movies had me hooked, I lived for those movies.. that is until the third one came out. I thought it was the perfect Spider-Man when I was younger, but now that I am older I see what those movies did wrong and it annoys me(such as Spidey's lack of witty remarks while fighting criminals). The Amazing Spider-Man is going to blow the old movies out of the water, making new classics for us to enjoy.

I remember being very excited for the first one, to the point of reserving tickets ahead of time. Hell, Spidey was the reason i got back into gaming as well. I bought a PS2 just to play the movie tie in game. The sequels had me excited too, but they didnt feel like oh my god excitement. As for the reboot, I'm not against it and will go see it, but at he same time, its's like ok whatever, Spidey has his time in the spot light. I'm far more interested in the newer CBMs. I get where your coming from though.

Its not weird seeing Spidey again because you didn't see him in his glory in any of Raimi's movie, spidey for the most part was mute, you didn't see the wit and humour that spidey has, you didn't see the fact that peter parker actually feels much more confident as Spidey, you never say his intellect ever being used properly in a fight. Hell you never saw spidey. Yes raimi's first two movies were good but they NEVER got Peter Parkers alter ego right.

I'm also 18 and my passion for comics (not exactly for comics, but for superheroes) started just when the first Spider-Man came out. I always thought they should do a fourth movie, and right then the reboot would come. I do like Spider-Man 3. Yeah, it was disappointing, but it's a good movie. But I agree it wasn't the best ending. At first, I pissed off when I heard about the cancellation of Spider-Man 4, and thought it's wasn't the right time to reboot. But, what the hell, now, with the new cast, I'm too excited to see what changes they did, the villains Spider-Man will face, and all that stuff.

Well what would feel weird, try watching the first Spiderman movies that came out in the 70's....aaahhhhh the music was a bit catchy and to this day I can't seem to get rid of it.

Good article and great example you're setting by being open minded.

Look, I'm in my 30's (early 30's) and I've seen characters like Superman and Batman evolve through film and I wince every time someone mentions changing anything in a superhero franchise because it is almost always met with a wave of initial fan outrage and flurry of ill-informed and rash comments. In the end I think fanboys hold on to things too tightly and truely fear change at a near molecular level, even when that change may be a good thing. Rebooting Spidey is a prime example, it may be bad, but it may be far better and certainly truer than what came before. It just needs to be given a chance.

There seems to be a trend in the Fanboy community to accept mediocrity for the sake of comfort, a merely okay franchise that one becomes comfortable with is preferable to some rather than going out on a limb and actually making changes because they automatically associate change as a bad thing. I like to look at change as a means of or a chance to correct mistakes.

I think that when comic franchises were first brought to the screen en masse over the last decade the mistake was made of allowing the franchise to become fiefdoms for a single director because if the director goes astray in one aspect or another it tends to magnify over successive installments or at the very least remain unaddressed, I hold up Singer's X-Films and Raimi's Spidey as prime examples. Other times the trilogy concept has paid off in the case of Nolan's films, but more often like the case of Favs with Iron Man 2 they tend to take for granted that what worked in one film will simply automatically work for the next.

I really think to save CBMs the idea of trilogies controlled by a single director needs to die, rather the story should dictate the director rather than the director dictate the story, imagine a Spidey film that address the Symbiote and Venom directed by David Fincher or Speilberg deciding he wants to give Cap a try, the results could be stunning. I would like CBM to be handled more like Bond movies in a way, meaning that directors come and go, actors fill the role for a while and then move on, and there can be a more free flowing dynamic. I think this will be the key to the longevity of the CBM.

The other necessity to see this happen, as I mentioned above, is that the fanboys will have to learn to embrace change, to understand that sometimes it is better to bring in a younger actor who may bring a different spin on a character than simply watch Spidey age to a 40 year old man, as was rapidly happening in the last franchise and not have a massive coronary because a new director or actor comes aboard at some point. The alternative is that we will be locked in reboot hell every ten years, and how many time do we really need to see Peter bitten by a radioactive spider or Superman be launched from Krypton to get the origin of a character, ultimately I agree that a reboot was needed here, but I never want to see it done again.

@TheWorldisYours. I feel exactly the same way as Nero and IronAngelX. I am so glad you made this comment because for me seeing the TV spots and trailers really got me excited for Spider-Man and from that moment on it changed my life.

See I will be honest I didnt get to see Spider-Man in theaters. I couldnt drive, or neither could my friends cuz I too was only like 9 or 10. When I finally watched it for the first time, I was hooked.

Finally Spider-Man 2 came out and my sister could finally drive, and she drove me to see it with one of my friends. I loved Tobey, the story, Doc Ock Bruce Campbell and everyone associated with that movie. I too began collecting everything Spider-Man; shirts, Dr Pepper pop cans,Marvel Ultimate Alliance, all the video games based on the movies, even ultimate Spider-Man, basically anything with Spider-Man. And then I realized that Marvel is a big comic name and DC, so I began watching every other Marvel movie and I am proud to say I own every Marvel movie made since the start of Blade. I fell in love with every Marvel character that we have seen so far and only a slight few did I think were bad casts or bad movies. Basically, I didnt know much about them either when I saw the movie, but after I saw it I did my research on all the characters. So my heart still was with Spider-Man but i got introduced to other characters in the Marvel Universe. Finally, high school came about and because of my love for the character, I got the nickname Spidey! I ran track and cross country and my shoes were always blue/silver with red laces. Even though they were not my school colors, it made me feel like Spider-Man. To this day I still have that nickname with my high school friends. And I also gave them names like Goblin to reflect who they were in both my world and Spidey's.

Ever since their was a countdown for SM3 I always knew how many days until that day. But during the wait movies like Fantastic Four and a few others came out, to help me pass the time. Also I kind of regret it but catching up on all the CBM news and TV spots and trailers, spoiled much of it for me. The day of the midnight premiere of SM3, I sat there with my gf(who bought us the tickets)at 11:55PM just waiting to see Spidey for the first time in a while.

I liked the movie but when Peter/Tobey danced on the street, it felt as though they were celebrating the final chapter of Raimi's movie. As we all know it was, and now we are patiently waiting for The Amazing Spider-Man.

Today, I come on this site every other day to see news about Captain America, Thor,Iron Man, The Avengers and so forth and I am still that little kid, awaiting to see this movie. Since SM3, my friends and I do what I like to call, May Marvel Movie Month or (MMMM)because a Marvel movie always seems to come out in May. This year its Thor and I am awaiting to see Nick Fury/Sam Jackson tie Thor with the Avengers...hopefully after the credits cuz those are AMAZING and get me so pumped. My friends look at me as the Marvel expert and ask me questions and I tell them interesting facts after the movie. But in short because of Tobey Maguire's character I have been hooked and became fans of many actors and actresses for their roles in CBM and have learned alot about many Marvel Characters and their origins/stories. because of my research before SM3, I realized that their were alot of villains throughout Raimi's 3 movies that we saw as humans and not in their actual villain form. Such as, Flash Thompson/Hob Goblin. Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard. Their are some others but cant think of them off the top of my head. But in short, you are not the only one and their are many out there just like us. Hell I really want to go to Comic-Con sometime lol.

I agree with you on this. Although, after rewatches of all the original Spider-Man movies, I get annoyed by Parker's pussy-whipped attitude (only way i can describe it) so I'm hoping that the new movie will be much more like the comics and the 90's cartoon which i watched and fell in love with as a kid.
I'm 19 and when Thor comes out, i will be dressed up in my kick ass costume that i handmade and be first in line like a Star Wars Nerd in line for Star Wars(im gonna miss doing that :/ ).

@TheWorldIsYours

Yes!!! That would be epic! The funny thing is I gave that name to a kid I met in college, because he wore the T-shirts all the time and his car was a Ford Focus hatchback and with his front it made it look like a skull. Unfortunately here in WI their isn't too many things i could swing off of. I thought about powerline poles but that might not work the best! BTW with my black suit costume I found out that shrink wrap, twisted and pulled on is perfect for webbing. It was an ingenius discovery I made and it looks realistic.See I always thought it would be cool since they are all black To have the Punisher, black suited Spidey and Blade in a picture together. That would be a pretty bada$$ team I think. Between my friends and I we have the costumes and the people. Especially our blade, because our friend would look awesome as blade. your costume looks awesome!

@THOR77- BTW your costume looks awesome!!!
