During a pretty revealing interview with the guys over at Collider, Marc Webb was asked if he would return to helm a sequel to the latest CBM, The Amazing Spider-Man. According to Webb, "I haven’t made a decision," he replied. "I’m just like...this has been such a long process, it’s so much fun, it’s really exciting and I’ve invested a lot. But I just want to finish this movie, take a breath and then I’ll make that call, we’ll see." Well so far the film has fared well critically, but financially it has done excellent. So there's a strong chance we will see another Webb-diected Spidey film in the near future.

Did you wonder which line of Spidey comics he drew inspiration from? "in terms of finding things from the comics, obviously there’s some references to his parents and different versions of that, and I studied that a little bit. And then I liked some of the attitude in The Ultimates." Further into the conversation, he stated "I like the attitude and the physical components of Spider-Man from some of the Ultimates. So it’s an amalgam of different characters that felt interesting to me." Well, now we know. Also, when asked about the villains, the only logical response was; "Well, hmm, I don’t want to give anything away."

The Amazing Spider-Man can be seen in theaters now!

Maybe he should make another film in between? Take the time to let inspiration and a good story grow in his mind then come back and do the sequel.

Only problem is Garfield ain't getting any younger, they can't wait too long.

@Sabconth From what I've heard he's being tapped to do a Jesus Christ Superstar remake and a sci-fi film by a writer for Black Swan.

Oh...

on seconds thoughts maybe he should go ahead and to TASM 2, those other projects don't sound too hot.

I just watched Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 again today, and I still think I prefer The Amazing Spider-Man. The Raimi films had that sort of naivety and innocence, but were also very cheesy half the time. I still enjoyed them for the nostalgic value, but The Amazing Spider-Man was just a better film in my opinion. It wasn't perfect, but it was a brilliant platform for things to come. I just wish they hadn't included certain things that made it comparable to the Raimi films, like Dr. Conners talking to his Lizard self in his head like how Norman Osborn spoke to the Goblin in the 2002 movie.

Also, I kind of hope the future films don't have a 'final swing'... they're fun to watch but it's getting old now, I mean does every Spider-Man film need to end with him swinging through the city as the theme tune starts playing?

The one thing I did prefer from the Raimi films was the score, which is much more memorable. I did kind of enjoy James Horner's score for TASM, but it wasn't very memorable at all. I still don't think we've had a definitive Spider-Man score yet, Danny Elfman's score for Spider-Man (2002) is memorable but the only reason I associate it with Spider-Man is because I've watched the movie - if I listened to that score with no knowledge of the film it came from, nothing would scream 'Spider-Man' to me.

@Sabconth TASM 2 is set for 2014 I think, so he can't wait too long, and the story is apparently already being worked on. I do hope Webb returns though, I thought he did a pretty good job on this film. And a lot of people seem to have forgotten that this is only the second film he's directed, so he did well.

"but financially has done excellent"

LOL

If excellent you mean making less in six days than Spider Man 3 did in its opening weekend, then sure it is doing excellent.

Seriously, ASM is not a flop, but it certainly wasn't a great success.

Spider-Man 3 was a 3rd movie, this was a reboot, of course it isn't gonna do better.
