More From Andrew Garfield On Spider-Man And Playing A Teenager!

The actor talks more about playing Spider-Man, comparing the character to Indiana Jones, and discusses the fact that he'll apparently play a teenager in the upcoming reboot...

"Spider-Man has his own conflicts, tortured but also having fun with what he can do," the 28-year-old actor said when he was once again quizzed about what it feels like to be cast as the iconic Marvel superhero.

"It's that attitude towards life like, 'Today's a good day to die. You gotta go out with a with a bang.' I think that's definitely an Indiana Jones quality, that fearlessness, throwing caution to the wind. I'm very excited to jump into that."

Garfield then went on to talk about approaching the age of 30, and playing younger characters as he does in The Social Network and the upcoming Spider-Man reboot: "I still look 18 years old, and I can convince people that I'm a teenager still."

"I have my teen side. I'm still very insecure and I can get rebellious and act out and kick and scream and mope around like teenagers do. So the majority of me is still a teenager."

The poor guy must be getting pissed off with asking all these damned Spider-Man questions...at least in this one he talks about something other than loving the character as a kid, lol! :P At this point, I'm 100% convinced that he's perfect for the role. I just need to hear more from Webb in order to decide whether or not he's the best choice to direct!

he does not look like a 18 year old well the ones that i know of but he looks like early 20s like 21 or 22. i feel they should have him in college instead of high school.

but Andrew Garfiel going to own this role good luck to him tho.

UGH. Spider-Man is my all time favorite superhero, and I enjoyed the Sam Raimi trilogy, (Yes, even the third one.) But this? This just makes me cringe, to see Spider-Man so quickly rebooted back to high school, with an unknown cast and a fraction of the budget.

The last thing I ever wanted was "Spider-Twilight 90210."

Thanks JoshW! I wish these articles would quit saying he's 28, he just turned 27 in August for crying out loud!!

Anyway, I can assume he'll be in his senior year for the whole movie and graduate at the very end of the movie which is what James Cameron was going to do but everything else in his script sucked.

Or he'll play a junior and the sequel will begin with him ending his senior year and beginning college as a freshman. Those are both two ways to solve the "age problem."

Love this guy

I know there has only been one onscreen Spidey up until this point, but I think he will be the defining Spider-Man.

@JoshW
One of the things that can get boring about these types of interviews, and most in general, are really the repetiviness of the questions that are being asked by the interviewers and tabloids. He has been asked virtually the same things and has been answering them in the same manner with different words. Hoping to hear more details that isn't ground that's been covered though like what's going on with production and other inside details.

@wolverinesfury
Yeah I know. I was really hoping for a teenage actor and other same aged performers if they were really going to take this back to high school. But with these types of productions once a mature actor is chosen for a teenage role the rest will soon follow as I've said before. I wasn't into him at first, and barely paid attention to him when he was on the shortlist, because he was the oldest of the group. My attentions were mainly on Josh Hutcherson only because he was the right age and Jamie Bell because it was rumoured that he was already sealing the deal. Regardless Andrew is still a terrific actor and does look young enough to still play a young adult. As long as the actor/actress look their age I don't care how old they are. That's just my opinion.

@Superman8
Yep. Even though Garfield is going to be 2 or 3 years older in comparison to their respective features' release dates it isn't that big of a deal so long as he looks the age. And he does.

@jazzman
It's starting to become an epidemic! Damn mature folk! LOL! ;)

@Sweetre15
Congrats on getting this! :D
I assume that with Garfield's age (he should be 29 or 30 by the time the film is released) it would work to have him go to college by the next film.

@VIKEME
I'm getting that feeling too. :)

I'm not saying that this movie will suck, in fact I think with the talent involved it will most likely be very good, but I'm still aboard the [frick] teh reboot train on it. Just pointless. Even if it happened that Raimi and co couldn't make another, the smart thing to do surely was to just continue on where they left off. They could still have Garfield play an older Spidey! It just befuddles me.

Right with you RorMachine. Because of the budget this is as close to a guaranteed win as you can get in the movies. If it is any good at all it will make a fair bit of money.

@RorMachine
I guess it made sense because they felt that when Sam and Tobey left so did their version of the character. I don't think Sony would want to continue on and figure out what Raimi would've done or go on with 'sloppy seconds.' Plus there is a likelihood that they might get the character done correctly as so many fans have wanted. I though Sam/Tobey's films were spectacular (with one obvious exception) but those stand as their version. It would seem best, in my opinion, to just go with another vision and bring the character back to his roots.

And another plus is all the talent that has been swarming around the project as you mentioned. Marc Webb is a superb director and Andy is a very talented actor. And even though the rumours were false, even Christoph Waltz would've been an acceptable name into the bunch. It just shows that Sony is taking this very seriously because of our reactions to film from MARVEL studios. As long as they make a good film, I'm okay with that.

whatever... here we go again... getting someone who's not a teenager playing 1... ok, ok even if this film was going to be good it should be in the MCU!

Damn right, this should not be a reboot, Spider-Man 3 wasnt the best but it didnt ruin the franchise. The only mistakes with Raimi's franchise was killing Doc Ock and Venom, and the whole multi-villain mess of Spidey 3. They could of retconned the villain's deaths and the franchise could of continued with Peter in college played by Andrew. Reboot was definetly not needed. Reboots are only needed when the franchise is in terrible shape such as the deal with Batman Forever and Batman and Robin
