Spider-Man: No Way Home united a sinister assemblage of villains from across the Multiverse, including Jamie Foxx's Electro. Thankfully, his arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe resulted in an updated appearance for the villain, and that led to a more comic accurate design on screen.
However, Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders has now shared an early design for Max Dillon that borrows even more from Electro's appearances on the page.
"An earlier version of the script had the villains raiding a [Damage Control] container of [Stark] tech to upgrade themselves, so I had Max hot-wire a daisy-chain of Mk50 arc reactors as a power-up," he explains in the Instagram post below. "Peter Parker would have made the suit underneath as a kind of Faraday cage to contain Electro’s energy and keep him corporeal. As with any [MCU] design, I tried to interpret the yellow lightning and green suit of the original comic costume in a practical way."
When the eventual "Art of" book for Spider-Man: No Way Home is released, we're bound to see even more designs that are vastly different to what ended up in the movie itself. As for this take, it's probably as close as Electro will ever get to looking like his comic book counterpart in live-action, and it's definitely a shame Marvel Studios didn't choose to embrace that in this adventure.
Of course, with rumours of an Electro movie still swirling, Sony might have the chance down the line!
Spider-Man: No Way Home releases on Digital on March 22 and physical platforms on April 12.
