Paul Giamatti May Play Rhino In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2; Felicity Jones In Talks For Role

Looks like Electro won't be the only villain to take on Spider-Man in 2014. Paul Giamatti (Rock Of Ages) is in negotiations to play the powerful Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, while Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) is in talks for an unknown role.

Here's some interesting casting news. When Jamie Foxx was announced to play the villainous Electro in Sony Pictures' sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man (which begins filming next month), it was speculated that at least one more villain will be included taking on the Webhead in the character's next big screen outing. Now, The Hollywood Reporter confirms just that. According to the site, Paul Giamatti - who was recently seen in Rock Of Ages and is currently shooting Parkland - has entered negotiations to play The Rhino in the film, which will be directed by Marc Webb (who helmed the first Amazing Spider-Man). The character first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #41 in 1966, and is known for wearing a superhuman Rhino suit that makes him invulnerable and gives him super strength/super speed. Back in 2011, Giamatti said that he was "ready and waiting" to play The Rhino should the character ever be used in a Spider-Man film, and it appears that he has gotten his wish.

Additionally, THR says that Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) is also in talks for a role, though the site says that the role is unknown. Could it be Betty Brant? Black Cat, even? Interestingly, Jone was recently said to be up for the female lead in Marvel Studios' Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which she later denied. The currently untitled sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Shailene Woodley and Sally Field. The film is set to hit theaters May 2nd, 2014.

What if felicity jones is playing felicia carty aka black cat, i mean she was in the videogame with rhino. Not who i'd chose though.

I'd love if Giamatti will play the Rhino like the one seen in the USM comics/game. I don't think the classic comic origin will work that well on screen, and I'd rather not see some mutant-Rhino character like in the games. Too similar to the Lizard for my liking. But with the direction the films are going this is probably going to be the outcome - mutant hybrid Rhino.

I can't picture him as Rhino. Plus, wasn't he in the Amazing Spider-Man game, too?

I can barely see him at the Rhino but then again what actor really look's the part. I'll give it a shot but I hope this is not a SM3 Repeat. Isn't the Goblin suppuse to show up at some point like the backbone of the story (Ie.The Dark Knight-Harvey Dent/Two-Face) then Electro too. I know they aren't dumb because 3 villians did not work especially since they did not give them good charcter development except Franco's Goblin. -sigh- I'll wait and see though.

Ooh, good choice for Rhino, should be fun seeing him on screen if done right (preferably the ultimate suit), but I hope the film doesn't become over-saturated. Felicity Jones might be a good choice for Betty Brant, it'd probably be a small part anyway so at least the cast wont be too overcrowded. Plus, Betty Brant means the Daily Bugle, which means JJ (hopefully a return for JK Simmons, despite it being a different continuity).

And this movie is shaping up to become great. The first was ok, but this sounds epic so far.

This definitely paves the way toward their intentions to set up the Sinister 6. Three villains in the bag already, a possible fourth if you include the Goblin.

Electro and Rhino, Dr Conners is blackmailed into joining the team as Lizard again, plus Goblin, that leaves two more.

Having said that, I'm not sure I want to see the Sinister 6 anyway. With this whole 'Untold Story' thing, they could easily set up a better version of the Venom arc than the last movie attempt, with an amalgamation of the 616 and Ultimate versions (an alien organism turned into a protoplasmic suit by Richard Parker and Curt Conners).

Giamatti is a great actor, but one must also fit the part aside from being a great actor. Why must studios always feel they have to compromise just to get a solid actor. Get a solid actor that looks or fits the part. I guess he can man up his voice more and they can CGI him or put him in some type of body suit, but I don't get this one at all. He doesn't scream Rhino to me.
