"Eventually, who knows? But the next movie will take place in relative proximity to this one," producer Matt Tolmach told
MTV Splash Page in a recent interview when asked whether the Peter Parker in this movie universe will ever catch up to Andrew Garfield's actual age of 28 (for those of you who may not have realised, the British actor plays a high school student in
The Amazing Spider-Man).
"We have more business to do here [and now] with the character," he adds.
"The story, there's a lot more to be told in this story, and this quest that he's on. So there won't be a huge time jump."
As for which villains we should expect to see in the follow-up, he refused to drop even the most minor of hints. However, he teased,
"There are so many good ones, but I don't want to give anything away. That's the coolest surprise!" As for whether we'll see a female villain like the Black Cat appear, he smiled and said only,
"I like those [characters] too." It looks as if we'll be waiting a little while longer to find out! Who would you like to see Spider-Man facing off against in the planned sequel? (currently being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and rumoured to have a release date of 2014) Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
