Silk: Spider Society, the Sony Pictures series that had Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) on board as executive producers, is no longer moving forward on Prime Video.

The announcement comes just days after Amazon confirmed that the Sony-produced Spider-Man Noir show starring Nicolas Cage is officially in development. No official reason for Silk being scrapped was provided, but Deadline has heard that the decision "likely lies in the show’s tortured development history."

Apparently, the project went through at least three versions, one of which "involved a request for Angela Kang and her writing team to reconfigure the show so it is not hanging so heavily on the central character of Silk."

Former The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang was brought on to oversee Silk: Spider Society, which was marketed as "the first in an expected slate of Marvel TV series based on the Sony Pictures universe that features more than 900 characters." She will remain under an overall deal at Amazon MGM Studios, where she will work on other projects.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the Amazon Studios family for this next chapter of my career,” Kang said back in 2022. “I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience and am so excited to dive in to my first challenge — bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.”

“Angela is a pro’s pro whose perspective and creativity we greatly respect and admire. She’s also a hell of a lot of fun. She loves these characters and we feel really lucky for the chance to work with her to bring Cindy Moon’s story to the world,” added Lord and Miller in a joint statement.

According to a previously-released character breakdown, Cindy Moon, aka Silk, is "a kid from Queens who is on her own for the first time. Although she’s a total beginner in law enforcement and fighting crime, she is said to love the feeling of beating up criminals to let her frustrations out, and has an affinity for ‘80s and ‘90s pop culture."

In the comics, Moon was a classmate of Peter Parker’s, first introduced in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #1 back in 2014. After being bitten by a radioactive spider, she gained similar arachnid-based abilities and took the superhero mantle of Silk. Tiffany Espensen actually appeared as the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
