"Spider-Man" musical may lose its director

Is Julie Taymor going to exit her own infamous Broadway adaptation of "Spider-Man"?

If you thought safety violations, actor injuries and bad reviews were the biggest problems "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" has, you can add its biggest one yet to the list. The show may lose its own director, Julie Taymor. Here is a brief excerpt from The New York Times:

"The producers of Broadway's 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' were negotiating on Monday with their director, Julie Taymor, for her to work with a newly expanded creative team to fix the critically derided $65 million musical or possibly leave the show, according to people who work on 'Spider-Man' or have been briefed on the negotiations."

If Taymor doesn't make changes to the show, including improving the highly-criticized story of the musical, then she may either exit the show or even be fired. If Taymor goes, this means that the show could either get a new director (Bono himself is apparently among those considered to replace Taymor), or it could be shut down altogether. Since the show has been delayed several times already, Spider-Man's Broadway future looks pretty grim.

What do you guys think of the news?

seriously, WHAT THE [frick]?!?!? i get its news, but all this website is covering is the negativity, like you said: safety violations, actor injuries and bad reviews

i have yet to see you guys even post the interviews they've done or the performance they did on Letterman last week. i can't take this site serious cause you cover everything like fanboys. you'll post every little word that comes outta anyone's mouth about Thor or Captain America, but you'll only post the bad news for the musical everyone here hates

and yes, i'm the only Spidey fan supporting this show.....until March 27, which will be the day after i see it for myself

@Brashlight and why hasn't anyone told you that when you say "FAIL", you become the equivalent of it?

Leave already! For the love of God just leave! Your career is already over because of this! This has been said to be one of the worst broadway plays of all time if not 'THE' Worst. No one will want to hire a director with that on their resume.

It is sad for people who are interested in singing and dancing to tell a story that has no connection to either. I realize Spider-Man is awesome and can be awesome in any story telling medium. But sometimes you get things like Super Hero Squad and Spider-Man the musical and you understand that it is not ment for everybody.

Everybody knew this was going to happen because the people that honestly love Spider-Man know that he would be on the forums saying the same things we are. "Fail".

LilJ- The content on the site is user-generated citizen journalism, and because of that, the users writing these articles are allowed to put their own spin on them. While that might not be ethical in a journalistic sense (the whole fair and balanced thing...) there is no rule telling them not to. People have the freedom to post whatever they want.

If the majority of the people on this site thinks this musical is garbage, or even just looks like garbage, then it is reasonable for them to post their views. A majority of fans seem to think this way, so they say something about it. It doesnt mean the majority is right and you are wrong, they are just opinions, but just like these people shouldnt get upset about you liking this play you should not be pissed at them for expressing their own opinions. Their just opinions after all. Apparently some people in the biz reads boards like these so its important were honest about what we want.

Also, if you dislike all the negative coverage of the show then write a positive one. The controversy alone would probably get you on the main.

OMG ! What else should happen for them to realize the show is a piece of crap !!!???

One thing I want to ask... has the show been open to the public at least once already?
