Sally Avril was part of a group of kids in Queens, New York, consisting of Liz Allan, Tiny McKeever, Seymour O'Reilly, Jason Ionello and Peter Parker who were friends since Elementary School. But by the time they arrived at Midtown High School, Peter had drifted apart and the clique was taken over by new student Flash Thompson. Do you have any other upcoming projects between school and work?
Kelsey Chow: I do. I have a very small, little thing in the next ‘Spider-Man’ movie.
That’s amazing.
Kelsey Chow: Thank you so much. I found out last minute and I took off work for a day and went on set and it was surreal. It was crazy.
Who do you work with in the film?
Kelsey Chow: I’m a character school. I play the role of Sally Avril.
I bet being on the set was great.
Kelsey Chow: Absolutely. Just being on the set was great, and I’m very excited to be in the movie and it was interesting to see Andrew Garfield work. It’s such a huge role and it’s a lot to take on, and I think he’s really has a vision with it as well Mark Webb. I think it’s going to be a great movie.
Sally in the comics had a long story arc involving her greedy desire to become wealthy by taking pictures of Spider-man to collect the Bugle's reward for that task. When she finds out that fellow student Peter Parker is spidey's photographer already she moves on from that career and becomes a super-hero, Bluebird.
She creates a costume that is blue, black and white. She also wears a blonde wig to help conceal her identity. She asks her boyfriend to be her personal photographer and follow her from one battle to another. She also has her boyfriend's father create weapons for her, one memorable one is called the Ether Egg. She fights alongside Spider-man in numerous comics, always screwing up, usually letting her ego get the best of her.
I doubt Marc Webb is introducing the character to film so that he can add the Bluebird storyline, but I like the inclusion and her background nevertheless.
The Amazing Spider-Man focuses more on Peter Parker’s high school days and the development of his powers while navigating the troubles of a brainy geek in high school. And starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field, the films swings into theaters July 3, 2012 in 3D!
