8 Villain Led Movies We Need To See Following The Release Of SUICIDE SQUAD

Suicide Squad has been a box office hit, and you'd best believe that will open the door to more villain led comic book adaptations. Here are eight Marvel and DC baddies we want to see in their own movies...

Suicide Squad may not be sitting that well with critics, but all the signs are pointing to it being a hit for Warner Bros. As a result, it wouldn't be remotely surprising if the success of Task Force X's big screen debut leads to more villain led movies in the near future. Just like Deadpool has inspired more R-Rated releases, so too could Suicide Squad now result in a string of bad guy solo outings or team ups. 

With that in mind, what you'll find here are a list of the eight villain led Marvel and DC Comics adaptations we most want to see in theaters following Suicide Squad. From groups of bad guys who could hold their own just as easily as The Avengers or Justice League to the villains who could easily take the lead by themselves, these are the characters who could really steal the show by being evil...

8. Deathstroke



If you're a fan of Arrow, you'll know what a compelling supervillain Deathstroke is. With the Suicide Squad movie doing well and that Teen Titans TV series possibly on the way but currently in limbo, we'll likely get to see a few more versions of this fan-favourite character before long too.

A mercenary and one of the most feared assassins in the DC Universe, Slade Wilson (nicknamed "The Terminator") is not a good guy, but like Deadpool or even Wolverine to some extent, it wouldn't be too difficult to root for him in a big budget action blockbuster if he's taking aim at someone even worse than he is! The DC Universe is a huge place with a variety of characters, and a Deathstroke movie would give Warner Bros. the opportunity to introduce us to even more of them. Start with Suicide Squad 2 and go from there!

7. The Thunderbolts



The Thunderbolts started off by pretending to be heroes so they could commit crimes, but actually ended up fighting the good fight. That could be a pretty interesting arc to follow, though there are more recent iterations where, like the Suicide Squad, they've begrudgingly worked for the government with a hero such as Luke Cage in charge.

Unfortunately, that's a premise a bit too similar to the recent big screen debut of Task Force X for Marvel to make without being accused of plagiarism, but there are more than enough comics for the studio to take inspiration from. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has expressed interest in this unique team on multiple occasions, so when he's finished bringing that group's adventures to the big screen, him taking charge of these bad guys would be awesome.

6. Sinestro



The mid-credits scene of 2011's disastrous Green Lantern sloppily teased Sinestro's transformation into the leader of the fearsome Sinestro Corps, but with a reboot now dated for 2020, Warner Bros. have the opportunity to tell that story properly. The Sinestro Corps War is an epic event which could be told over a number of movies (or trimmed down for a single epic one), and the fallout of such a story could lead perfectly into a solo outing for Sinestro.

If the new DC Cinematic Universe is avoiding origin stories, a movie like this could also explore the character's time as a member of the Green Lantern Corps working with Hal Jordan (thereby fleshing out his background at the same time, somthing which would be good seeing as he's likely to be one of three human leads in that movie). With the right story, this has huge potential.

5. The Rogues



If The Rogues are introduced in The Flash's movie, giving them their own big screen outing could work with the right cast. Their main foe is of course the Scarlet Speedster, and while they've occasionally fought by his side for the greater good, Warner Bros. have the chance to do something very unique with this one. For example, why not have the whole movie take place from their perspective and make The Flash the "villain"?

It would mean that the viewer would be rooting for the bad guys and seeing events from their perspective, something which Suicide Squad proved can actually work. Regardless of the premise, this could be really interesting, and this is a group of characters it's surprisingly easy to root for if handled the right way, something we've seen in the comic books on multiple occasions over the years. 
 
 

4. Doctor Doom



We got to see a new origin story for Doctor Doom in Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot last year (where he was played by British actor Tony Kebbell), but 20th Century Fox once again dropped the ball with the iconic villain. Unfortunately, the 2015 release failed to make Doom's Latverian roots a big part of Victor Von Doom's story, but a spinoff could make up for that.

A solo outing exploring his childhood and rise to power in that nation - with the latter scenes possibly tying into a future Fantastic Four movie - could lead to an engaging spinoff which offers up a  dark and revealing examination of how an innocent boy grows up to be a tyrant. Whether there's actually any interest in the character after three movies have completely f***ed him up is hard to say, but if done well, Doctor Doom really could be incredible.

3. Loki



After appearing in two (soon to be three) Thor movies and taking on the role of the lead villain in The Avengers, the God of Mischief's profile is high enough to mean that we're not the first to suggest that Tom Hiddleston's Loki should be given his own movie. However, it could work as recent comic books have demonstrated. As an Agent of Asgard, Loki is sent on the sorts of missions that are a little too dirty for Thor (usually to serve his own nefarious purposes).

At the end of The Dark World, Loki was sitting on the throne in the guise of Odin, so after picking up on that plot thread in Thor: Ragnarok, here's hoping there's room for a solo spin-off of some sort as the potential for a hit is definitely there. While there are plenty of other movies Marvel could and should prioritise, the potential for something special is definitely here.
 

2. Secret Six



Like most DC Comics characters and teams, there have various versions of the Secret Six over the years, but we'll be focusing on the supervillain one for the sake of this feature. Run by a mysterious figure known as Mockingbird, this team targets heroes and villains alike on the promise of a huge payday from the big bads such as Lex Luthor and the Mad Hatter. They have an interesting dynamic, and apart from Deadshot and perhaps one or two others, a very different roster to the Suicide Squad.

Unfortunately, similarities to that team and the name (not dissimilar to the Sinister Six) could see this lot left on the shelf for the time being. However, perhaps they could make an appearance in a future Suicide Squad movie as competition to that group? That could be a good launching platform for this lot anyway. 

1. Dark Avengers



Captain America: Civil War shook things up, but you'd best believe that even bigger changes are in store for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Infinity War. Expanding this franchise (especially as there will soon be too many heroes to contain within one team) is one way Marvel could go, and having a "Dark" faction would be very interesting to see play out on the big screen.
 
There are some characters who wouldn't be included here due to rights issues, though that not longer includes Norman Osborn. Still, there's Daken, the son of Wolverine, but a few alterations could make it work. The Dark Avengers are a twisted bunch who the world believe are heroes, but their methods are violent and they live only to serve themselves. Spending some time with these twisted versions of our favourite heroes - "Hawkeye" is really insane Daredevil baddie Bullseye for example - could be great fun to watch.

@Highflyer - I'd love to see a Sinister Six movie where Doc Ock gathers a team of NY villains so he can get revenge on Norman Osborn (pre-Goblin).

And Spider-Man could actually be seen as a villain, as the only times he would appear would be in fights. IN the first fight they'd kick his butt. Second fight he's throwing less quips and in a new black suit. He's also more agile and strong. By the final fight he's not only strong and fast, but he's brutal and basically silent.

I think it'd be cool to see Spidey go through the process of having Venom in a film that isn't his, and then he can get rid of it as the beginning of his next solo movie. That way, we don't have to waste half a movie on him being in the black suit, and Eddie Brock (or whoever) can be Venom for almost the entire duration of the film.

Just Pay Joaquin Phoenix what he is looking for and give the world the Doctor Doom movie we all deserve.

...or Viggo Mortensen (which is probably impossible).

@IronGenesis - If so he probably wouldn't be able to be a F4 villain, as he wouldn't sign a multi picture deal.

However, if that's what it takes I'm fine with it.
