SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Shares New Look At A Deleted Scene Featuring Jared Leto's Joker

With Warner Bros. finally announcing that the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League will premiere on HBO Max next year, many fans have turned their attention to Suicide Squad, and are urging the studio to #ReleaseTheAyerCut.

David Ayer has already made it clear that his original version of the movie ever seeing the light of day is highly unlikely, but the director has been happy to revisit Task Force X's cinematic debut over Twitter, sharing some new details and tidbits with fans in the process.

Yesterday, Ayer debuted a new black-and-white shot of Jared Leto as The Joker.

As previously reported, The Clown Prince of Crime originally had a far more substantial role in the film, and this image is taken from a deleted sequence which would have taken place just before the final battle. Joker was going to reappear after surviving the helicopter crash (hence his burned face), before striking a deal with Enchantress to save Harley Quinn's life. Apparently, HQ would have rejected Joker's offer and stood by her new friends.

Ayer captioned the image "Dream," which obviously suggests that he would very much like the opportunity to show fans his original cut of the movie. Who knows, if Zack Snyder's Justice League is a massive success for HBO Max, the studio might be persuaded to allow the filmmaker to do just that.

He wants it released more than Zeus wants to release the Kraken.

@soberchimera - Wouldn't entirely matter anyway, since by his own admission he said he should have made the Joker the main antagonist to begin with. That's a story flaw he can't change with editing, not in this case (unless he wanted to make a bizarrely different and, I imagine, much shorter movie).

There is nothing you can do to fix this version of the Joker other than redesign, recast and reshoot every scrap of footage.

@inkniron - How can you say that? We've seen less 8 minutes of this version, in a version of a movie not designed to even have him.
You can say you did't like what you saw, but don't say the version of the character is bad when you haven't even seen it.

@kazuma - Not designed to have him? All indications are they shot extensive work with him. Leto was super pissed about it being cut.

“Were there any that didn’t get cut? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start,” JLeto

@inkniron - And the movie we saw wasn't designed to have him. The Joker character has no reason to be in the movie. I don't know how you can deny that.

@kazuma - Ok, fair enough. The schlock footage they threw together removed a ton of footage that was shot, so yeah, I guess the final edit wasn't designed to have him. The 8 minutes we got however was pulled directly from Ayer's original vision and that was about 7m58s too much. Vomit inducing tattoos, Joker's Gang are furries, he's dressed like he wants to be a late 90's gangsta rapper but comes off more like Jamie Kennedy from Malibu's Most Wanted, his absolute cringe "no beef" bs and for the love of Cthulhu, can someone tell me where the hell his eyebrows are? All of that is an absolute dumpster fire.
