Hans Zimmer NOT Scoring Superman Reboot

Hans Zimmer NOT Scoring Superman Reboot

At least, not yet. Despite word to the contrary the other day, it seems the composer has never met with Zack Snyder, and for the moment, has no intention of scoring his Superman reboot..

The Hollywood Reporter spoke exclusively to Zimmer on the matter, and he was pretty blunt in clearing up any association he may have with composing the score to Zack Snyder's Superman. Below is an excerpt from their interview..

THR: The internet is buzzing with rumors that you’ve signed on to Zack Snyder’s Superman project. Any truth to that?

Hans Zimmer: You know, it’s like some dirty quote taken out of context. Let’s just be absolutely straight here: I have never in my life met Zack Snyder. I think I need to give him a ring...

..Zimmer: I met Chris Nolan once and he knows Zack Snyder and therefore I’m doing Superman. You know that’s all it is.

THR: It may stem from the fact a lot of people would like to see you take that project. Based on the Batman films.

Zimmer: How can I say it: My heart belongs to Batman. I wouldn’t even know how to go and give voice to it. I haven’t thought about it.

THR: Not to mention following in the footsteps of John Williams.

Zimmer: Right! John Williams, the greatest living composer -- full stop. And that happens to be one of his greatest themes. So no. And I’m not thinking of rewriting Beethoven’s ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So that’s unequivocally a no. I have never spoken with Zack Snyder.

That sounds pretty definite to me. Its a shame though. I understand him not wanting to mess about with Williams' iconic score, but I think he would have made some great ear candy for Superman to fly to. Lets hope he does pick up that phone.

The Dark Knight score was fantastic, but Superman needs something more sweeping. I don't know if they should use the Williams theme or not. It's totally iconic and makes you think of Superman, but Nolan didn't use the Elfman Batman theme (which became even more iconic through TAS) and that wasn't a problem, and I can imagine Synder feeling like they need a new theme to differentiate it from the Reeve/Routh films.

yeah i agree with LEE
even though its a reboot
when we think of superman..we think..
''duuuuuun dun dun dun duuuun...duuuun duuun duuuun''
id say tweek the original slightly, just so we have some wink and a goodbye to the reeve and brandon supermen.
and then we have something fresh and new and then we have music in the reboot opening that makes your spine tingle knowing your seeing the next generation of a superman but also remembering the originals :)

@superguy Routh was a okay Superman, but no one can and has the right to replace Christopher Reeve. May Christopher Reeve be Superman till the end of time!

No Nerdman, Routh was terrible! Superguy says so and that's that! Never mind that a good 80% of critics praised his performance, some even calling him a revelation. WTF do they know anyway? You would think they were paid to critique movies. Superguy says he sucks and his word is GOSPEL!!!:)

I like Routh as Clark, but he's flat as Superman. But I think his non emotion as Superman was a directoral decision, and having too much of it be a nod to Reeve His Clark was similar but different to how Reeve approached it. But he was less over the top obvious with his nerdiness, and more subtle. I think that subtlety works better and separates the two characters better. The scene where he was getting kicked around and stabbed, I think he did great in that whole sequence.

Routh is a horrible actor. He sounds like he's reading a script half the time. Why do you think he has no movie career? Cuz he sucks.

RorMachine, I won't argue with your opinion, but I'd like to point out there has been actors worse then Routh playing Superman. Remember Superman: The Musical!
Compared to the guy who played Superman in that musical, Routh looked like a good Superman. I think Routh was okay in my opinion, but he could have been way better!

I don't hate Routh, but I don't like him as Clark Kent/Superman... at all. I honestly do not think Routh is to Superman as to what Bale is as Batman.

But I thought it would've been cool for Zimmer to do the score, oh well. Bring back John Williams! :)

Damn, that's a real pity. :( I think it's time to move on from the classic score. Unlike stuff like the Star Wars and Indiana Jones themes, it's just not that identifiable to the character (because there have been so many others associated with Superman in various other live action/animated series) and is actually a little cheesy/outdated IMO.

While i love the original score, It's time for something new. BUT! If you insist on using the old score, revamp it. Change some instruments around, spice it up. But keep the epic feel. But personally i would like something new.

I'm excited about this. Hopefully now they can focus on finding a composer who does upbeat fantasy-oriented themes like this needs, like the character DESERVES.
