In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

It's a tie for me between Man of Steel and Thor: TDW for which comic book film was the best this year.

Best film this year for me was Gravity.

Thor: TDW was the best comic book movie of 2013!

Yep, Gravity was incredible. Man Of Steel had what I feared on learning Zach Snyder of 300 and Legend of The Guardians was directing: heavy on visuals, light on substance, even though I know the film was trying. It just lacked so much charm and had a huge monotony of lame destruction scenes. -However, it was still pretty wild and gave us a Superman like we've never seen before. Liked Thor 2 much better myself. Much more going on in it, though it seemed more lighthearted generally. Didn't see Wolverine. Iron Man 3 was fun but not groundbreaking or compelling. Didn't see the others.

Top 2013 Marvel/DC Comic Book Films (No RIPD or 2 Guns)
1. Man of Steel (fantastic reboot to Superman and my favorite film of the year)- 5/5
2. The Wolverine (Emotion is where it's at and the action is brutal)- 4.5/5
3. Iron Man 3 (a good end to a mediocre series but leaves with a lot of disappointment)- 3.5/5
4. Kick-Ass 2 (fun and raunchy with a great performance by Carrey)- 3/5
5. Thor The Dark World (Wasted potential with a piss poor villain lead to mediocrity on par with Iron Man 2)- 2.5/5
So overall 2013 was a damn good year that ended with a rather disappointing film, maybe next year will be a perfect all around great year!

"Iron Man 3 was crap because they made the Mandarin into something other than a huge Asian stereotype. CBMs should change NOTHING when adapted from the source material, like MOS. Action Comics #1 totally ended with Kal-El knocking over a city and snapping Zod's neck."

OR

"Iron Man 3 was crap because the characters made jokes. I don't want to see a movie based on comic books that I read as a child that make me have fun. They should all be super, super serious and make you cry and stuff. If you leave the theater with a smile on your face, the movie obviously sucked."

Jesus Christ, people. MOS was an absolute abortion with its unrelenting grimdark nonsense. Every scene I expected the actors to turn to the camera and say "No, seriously. This is a serious story about space Jesus who is really important because, y'know, hope and ideals and stuff. Also punches."

Iron Man 3 was not crap. It had a lot of good humor and a lot of great action. Shane Black did not ruin the Mandarin, the fifty years that have passed since the yellow-skinned long clawed stereotype was invented ruined the Mandarin. It was a change for the better. Plus, the Mandarin from the comics never made much sense to me anyhow. "He's got ten rings that are powered by alien magic and fights Iron Man. Also, he acts like he was born a thousand years ago." Yeah, great character.

Thor: TDW is my pick for CBMOTY. So much fun, so funny, great CG, an absolute winner. Second only to Avengers in the Marvel Pantheon at the moment, in my opinion.

I love the top six movies. All of them were good imo, and Thor was great. The others were watchable but I have no desire to watch them again. Great year imo.

Look, we all got rooked, robbed, fleeced, and swindled by Iron Man. But it's just the most obvious example of how Marvel Sudio's universe will NOT be OUR comic book universe. So, GIVEN that these films are going to make up stuff as they go along; GIVEN that these producers and directors want to put their own creative stamp on the characters by exploring themes that "were never considered" in the comics; GIVEN that they only care about bringing in the huge foreign markets and a generic non-comic-reading audience (profit is NOT a bad thing); GIVEN that they feel THEIR take on an inherently unbelievable fantasy genre is BETTER than the ACTUAL inherently unbelievable fantasy genre SOURCE: GIVEN all that . . . it's only going to get worse (from a comic fan stand point. We will constantly be disappointed with their bastardized interpretation.
We should enjoy the movies for what they are - comic book movies that accurately portray a DIFFERENT Marvel Universe. Call it Marvel FunWorld. And get used to it, because Marvel is going to slowly morph its 616 universe into FunWorld.

Just laugh out loud the next time you hear them say they're "going back to the source material for inspiration." It's part of the Marvel FunWorld marketing approach!

I'm just tired of seeing the praise for MOS. It's really nowhere near as good as people think it is or want it to be. The only reason why people like it is because they reduced Superman down to "Poses heroically, punches hard."

@Pasto
Wow, I'd hate to have your life. "Someone has a different opinion than me! Obviously a troll!"
