MOTHER! Director Darren Aronofsky Says He Would Be Interested In Helming A SUPERMAN Movie

Mother! director Darren Aronofsky has already spoken about how he would have approached a Batman movie back in the day, but it sounds like he may also have some interest in The Man of Steel. Take a look...

Had Darren Aronofky gotten the opportunity to helm his Batman: Year One movie back in the day, it's fair to day that he would have delivered a very different take on The Dark Knight, and one that would have been highly divisive.

It seems unlikely that the mother! director will ever get the chance to realize his vision for Batman, but it sounds like he does still have some interest in dipping a toe in the CBM genre - and a certain other iconic DC hero in particular seems to have caught his attention.

While chatting to CinePop about his latest film, Aronofsky was asked if he still has any interest in "presenting a unique vision" of the superhero genre:

"I mean, you know, Superman would always be interesting. But they’re already deep into reinventing him, so that’s not going to happen for a long time."

Aronofsky also acknowledges that these types of movies usually aim to find the widest audience possible, which means it might be difficult for him to get away with doing anything radically different with the character. So, while a trip to the DCEU is probably not on the cards for the acclaimed filmmaker, there's always a chance we might get to see his take on the Man of Steel at some point in the future.

What do you guys think? Any interest in Darren Aronofsky's Superman?

@ODanil - I would be cool with him doing some non canon movie like what they are doing with the Joker origin movie. Some lower budget movie where he can just get creative as all hell!

@JonAwesome - All Star Superman adaptation. He’s good if unconventional. That story would be perfect for him. With Grant Morrison as a consultant.

I wikipedia'd what Mother was about and it sounds Brutal but not in a good way.
After Snyder's version has split opinions, I'm not sure that the world would be ready for his version of Superman.

I did like the Wrestler but the only other film of his I have seen is The Fountain, and Requiem sounds like another film that was quite harsh in terms of subject.

Maybe he would have been a good director for the Stand Alone Joker movie.

@SimplyAz - As someone who has seen mother!, it's far more brutal seeing that than reading.

But as someone else who has seen mother!, I can't stand the praise for the film. The film is creative. I have no issue with the biblical influence. In fact I find it wildly creative and genius how Darren was able to sort of retell the Old Testament and New Testament in a 2 hour long film.

The issue is that the film has no message. If it has a message it's that human beings are shitty and they are shitty to the Earth and that [frick] them they should be destroyed.

Since Darren is so inspired by the bible, did he forget about the disciples of Jesus who believed in him? Did he forget about all the saints? To just have it so everyone is shit feels pretentious and unrealistic.

@LEVITIKUZ -

Oh wow, don't think that it's the movie for me then. Thanks for the review.

He is an interesting Director but I guess he has his vision of film making and it's not for everybody.

DC should just tell him to take his pick of any property that is not planned for the DCEU and to have fun. Hec, any Studio should take the same approach. "take your pick just keep it separate from the universe in place, thank you, enjoy".

Aronofsky is a great director but no.

His style is dark, brutal, and biblical.... pretty much like Snyder's current Superman...
