RUMOR: Is CG Superman Really Happening For The Upcoming Reboot?

Yes, we heard it before but the rumor is still alive and this new report is offering some new info on the CG Superman and a possible new update on Lois Lane and her part in the movie. Check it out!

So, there were some reports that Warner Bros. is going the Green Lantern route by having the Superman costume being all CG. Now this new report is saying that, plus that Henry Cavill may not be in the Superman suit at all.

From Cinematical:

We still don't know in which direction the new Superman movie will head, with the exception of the fact that Henry Cavill will be playing Clark Kent/Superman. We've heard the film may follow Clark Kent as he travels the world as a journalist, trying to come to terms with his powers and whether he belongs in this world. We've also heard that Cavill may not be in the Superman suit at all, that folks behind the scenes have been testing an all-C.G. Superman that looks sorta like Christopher Reeve.

Also, the report is saying that Lois Lane won't be a big part of the movie and two other actresses are being looked for the role:

We've also heard buzz that Lois Lane won't be an integral part of the film. Other names lingering around in Early Buzz World include Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kristen Bell.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, and stay tuned for the updates!

Zack Snyder is directing the upcoming reboot, with Henry Cavill playing The Man of Steel.

Film is set to hit theatres in 2012!

I actually like Birthright there are some really great elements in the book that I would love to see on film.
As for the CGI suit there really is no need for it this ain't Green Lantern. The only reason I could see them doing this is because they want to explain the fact the suits material is of alien origin instead of Martha Kent creating it for him.

Seriously? Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kristen Bell being considered for a part like Lois Lane makes it not to be true.
still good find man!

Bullshit! They are not that stupid!...I hope they are not

The movie should be something like Birthright mixed with Secret Origin.
Brainiac as the main villain and Lex as the side villain.
Winstead is not bad choice as Lois.

Great find Wolvie...really hope this whole CGI rumour is BS though. While it may work for Green Lantern, it's completely unnecessary for Superman! It's a costume like any other superhero wears. How would they explain where it comes from!?! Stupid idea.

A gigantic grain of salt! I hope they're not really considering it. I can see some CGI during the flying sequences especially if it shows Superman from a distance, but leave the damn suit alone already!!

wait, i'm confused. Superman CGI all the time? or like, for some effects / special shots purposes? I'm assuming they need a CGI Supes for this but he wouldn't be Roger Rabbit interacting with actors?? ......hehe I am pretty sure not but the idea is fairly amusing

Not really sure about this. If I was Cavill I'd want to at least have a suit that I could have really put on even if they went back and did some CGI work to it later.

CGI uniforms make me want a drink.

a cgi body/suit would be amazing!

cgi reeves face would be wierd and creepy

probably like they did with Superman Returns when alot of the flying shots were CG renders of Routh, but this time Cavill..THAT i can believe..but doing all CG Superman that looks like Reeve & Cavill not in the suit at all no action in the suit or anything...i dont believe what is this Smallville? lol

@Josh: You are completely right...The whole thing with CG suit sounds stupid. But still, Warner Bros decided to go with the CG suit for Green Lantern. I guess we are just going to have to wait and see.

"testing an all-C.G. Superman that looks sorta like Christopher Reeve."

BULL.

I love Christopher Reeves, he embodied Superman. But come on, attempt something different than just going "Shit we need another christopher reeves".

I wan't something new from a Superman film, rather than just leaching on the shadow that was left by Reeves.

You don't see them casting Christian Bale as Batman because he looks like Michael Keaton.

I think a CGI suit would be pretty bad ass and obviously they need to use some CG shots in the actions scenes. I would take this with big grain of salt. I thought that Kristen Bell was already out of the running. IMO Durance is and will the best Lois in the next decade or so. She is perfect in that role but gets shat on because of the terrible writing on Smallville. I hope it goes to Wilde in this movie. I am starting to get more excited about this movie than I am about TDKR and that is borderline blasphemous for me to say.

Also the CGI suit works for Green Lantern because the suit is projected onto his body. It's alien tech. It'd would be weird if the alien tech suddenly clamped him with spandex.

Superman's suit is made from the blankets he was fond in as a baby.

Blankets.

Sure their space blankets but there still fabric!

This would be so lame, a cgi chris reeve face? That would go against everything snyder and wb have said- snyder said this film will have NO connection to the reeve films and wb just said they chose cavill cuz- he DOESN'T look like reeve and routh.

Lamest and worst rumor I ever heard

@spideydude- I agree, a cgi body and suit would be nice but damn they need to put Cavill in the suit!! Leave the face alone!!! Lol

dnno1 - 2/2/2011, 11:12 AM

I would believe that there will be a CG suit, and I might believe that they would be using somebody else's body for Superman, but it won't look right if the face of superman was not the same as Clark Kent's. There might be some truth to the story, but I don't believe it's totally correct.
Frogman
Frogman - 2/2/2011, 11:14 AM
well they said they were going in a new direction with no links to the other Superman films so it looking like Reeves already makes this fake for me.
naterator
naterator - 2/2/2011, 11:15 AM
WHAT IF.....they are only casting henry cavill as a younger clark kent...and when he turns into superman and cgi takes over it changes his over all look....hence more like reeves. you saw what they did in the last terminator movie..bringing arnold back with cgi. what if they planned to do the same thing with superman? its seems a bit far stretched and not to mention alot of money to produce.

I don't believe this story specifically, but I do think a CG suit, not a CG Superman, is interesting.Especially in the sense that Cavill could be a smaller size as Clark, but they could give him a more muscular physique as Superman.
Scarecrow44
Scarecrow44 - 2/2/2011, 11:18 AM
CG Suit works for GL because the suit is made of Energy frm the ring. This is BS if its true for Supes. Superman has a suit just like all the oher charactes. doubt its true though. The only characters that should be CG in Superman films should be villains (Parasite, Metallo, Braiac etc...)
naterator
naterator - 2/2/2011, 11:22 AM
nolan did say that he loved the Reeves films. but if they are going to make it look like reeves then why would they do away with the soundtrack? i hope they dont do some wackjob of a deal where the suit spontaneously appears on hime like the green lantern costume. i have no beefs with the Gl costume ...organic is sweet in his case but i hope its not the same for supes....or have it look so tight on supes that it simply looks like its been tattooed onto his body and therefore explaining how hes able to wear the costume under his clothes.

What a load of crap. They're going to reboot the franchise, make it pretty apparent that they're going as far away from the Reeve/Routh films as possible, cast Henry Cavill and then go with a CG Superman that kind of looks like Christopher Reeve?

This is the stage, folks, where we're going to be hearing all sorts of bizarre things, most of which won't be true.
