Superman Anniversaries

Superman Anniversaries

For fans of the Man of Steel, this week marks two significant anniversaries, one amazingly positive and the other disheartening.

Action Comics
First the good news: 71 years ago today, DC Comics introduced Superman to the world in the pages of Action Comics #1. The character was an immediate sensation, capturing the imaginations of millions of people and creating a phenomenon that continues to this day. A phenomenon that has brought the character to life in a wide variety of incarnations, including, of course, the 1950s television series The Adventures of Superman, starring George Reeves.
Which is the segue, of course, to the previously mentioned disheartening news. Fifty years ago June 16th, the media reported to the world that Reeves, beloved icons to millions (and millions more who hadn't even been born yet, but would discover his TV adventures), had committed suicide. Reportedly disheartened by the way he felt Superman had limited his career, he turned a gun

on himself (and did not, as so many still somehow believe, jump out a window, believing he could fly). To this day, there are those who believe that the actor was actually murdered.
At this moment, Voices From Krypton offers sincere thanks to Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and DC Comics for giving birth to the legend, and heartfelt affection for the late George Reeves, who deserved better.

Duuude!! Why would you ever want Bryan Singer to put his hands on another Superman film again?

Why would you want to see Superman with a Kid?

Brandon Routh Again?

The movie was terrible.

Watch superman as he hurls a rock into space?

NO No NO!!

What we have here is a rare opportunity to cut loose and show you how powerful I really am.

Sorry bro I think Leo is an Awesome Actor he is one of my favorite young actors.

I mean even early in his career you could already tell that Leo had a shit load of potential.
What eating Gilbert Grape leo plays the retarded boy
Titanic was leo playing almost himself except in a different era.
The Aviator he was brilliant as Howard Hughes
Catch me if you can was f#cking amazing
The Departed was great
Body of Lies was also great
Blood Diamond

Yes this is a guy who not only can act but he can also do accents something that few great actors can pull off well.

But never for Cap because he doesnt have the physical attributes to play Cap. He has everything else except that. I mean if we were talking about a small actor like Stallone OK because we can get away with camera tricks but Leo just doesnt have the frame or the build for Cap.

With all my respect I salute Reeve and Reeves. They were true masters.
And I know it's sad of course but a fact is still a fact: I think Superman is gay.

This is the kind of quality article I'd like to see more of on here. Like him or not, without Superman, we never would have had the many characters that followed him after he opened the door to superhero stories with his immediate success. He embodies all the attributes that a true hero and role model should exemplify. The world is a much better place for having Superman, and the universes of characters that followed him, in it.

Couple the anniversary of his debut with the sad anniversary of the death of George Reeves, who did a wonderful job of bringing Superman to life, and this is truly a week of mixed emotions. At least his performances as Superman live on forever.

The film was called Hollywoodland, its worth watching if you like films like Chinatown and LA Confidential.

yeah it is HollywoodLand.. good picture, though it leaves a lot to think about to the audience.. worth buying too. the extras-documentaries are cool, they show the 50´s kind of life, when the Studios RULED EVERYTHING.. sure they miss that now.

On topic: R.I.P. George Reeves.

To Pietro, Superman is by far one of the most beloved comic book characters of all time, in my opinion. And despite your mundane and clearly insulting remarks, Superman is a character of interest, a character people enjoy hearing and reading about, and a character that was the flagship iconic superhero for more that seventy years of comic books. So if you have an issue with the character, take it up somewhere else that isn't meant to be a tribute to the character and to the people who love his legendary history.

I love Supes and think he is the greatest, and i can understand why people are bored with him, but like comicbookguys said, all the characters you would love wouldn't be here today with out him. You wouldn't have modern rock guitar with out Hendrix, and modern comics with out SUpes.
